The New York Times best-selling Tunnels series continues with this fifth installment from acclaimed authors Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams. In Spiral, horror spreads across England in the form of the Styx, malevolent creatures carrying a dark secret that could spell doom for all Topsoilers. All is not lost, however. Will Burrows and a small band of former commandos vow to stomp out the threat-even if it means placing their lives in mortal danger.

"Spiral is a very good book. Although some of the parts of the story such as when the Styx, an upgraded version of the human, feed their young and when the main character talks to his companions about strategies, the action in the story really keeps me hooked. In parts it may be violent like in riots and fights but it isn't gruesome and bloody. This book is one of the best series I have ever read and if you like the book series Eragon, you will surely like this one called the Tunnels series."

" I ordered this one from England beause I wanted it so bad! it was truly amazing! "
— Andrew, 1/28/2014" Maybe it was just me, but I didn't like it as much as I did all of the other books. It was just OK for me and there were some holes and the ending wasn't very satisfying to me..just OK. I plan to read it a second time in the future. "
— Sophia, 1/22/2014" Wow--this book was a huge disappointment! Although many teens and adults enjoy the series, it was way too gory and gruesome for a younger reader. The author should have kept that more in mind. In fact, in the author's acknowledgements at the end, he said that he had originally written the middle portion of the book differently--until the editor suggested he explore who the Styx really are. Bad, bad move. Mr Roderick, next time follow your instincts and go with what you feel the first time. As it is, I can't recommend this book as appropriate for a children's publication. "
— Bryan, 1/16/2014" Sci fi/fantasy for 5th grade and up. This book reviewed the differences between the Styx and the human races and why they went to topsoil. The horror created by the Styx women (besides the two Rebeccas) after the "Phase" is deliciously frightening: the insect legs on the Styx women's backs, the ability to deposit hundreds of egg sacs to develop inside human bodies that grow into warrior soldiers, the grubs bursted out of the hosts bodies..... As exciting as the other 4 in the series. "
— Susanna, 1/8/2014" Not so good as the previous four, but readable... "
— Kackucka, 1/4/2014" This series has yet to let me down. "
— Sean, 12/20/2013" I love this series, however, this book was pretty gory, and I did not like it. I would not allow my 10 year old to read it. Hopefully the next one will be better. "
— Dana, 12/18/2013" lol so cool cant wait 4 next book book! Eddie is my fave carictor ever "
— Cerberus, 11/10/2013" Just like the rest of the books, awesome storyline, but I didnt like that Spark is dead, and I wanted to see Dr.Burrows in last installment. thumbs up Brian. "
— Arsalan, 8/25/2013" one more book one more book I am ready for this series to end "
— Regina, 7/22/2013" Not one of my favorite Tunnels book. A lot of crazy things that they added some doesn't make sense. but still a quick easy read. "
— Andrea, 6/21/2013" it was good, will be waiting for the squel "
— Lillian, 5/30/2013" I found myself getting very bored through most of the book till the end. This book is by far my least favorite of the series. All though the ending of this one did pull together alot of the pieces of the overall story. 3 out of 5 stars is the best I can give it. "
— Patricia, 5/17/2013" I really did not like the ending... "
— Jared, 4/16/2013" I really love this series. I know that this series is for young adults and is pretty dark, but this book would be frightening for young kids due to all the death. But the story is always moving along and cannot wait to see what happens next. "
— Kim, 4/13/2013" Great book, but I didn't like the ending! "
— Sharyn, 10/6/2012" I don't know if this is the last book or not, but they need to be done! "
— Wendy, 9/13/2012" Not my favorite in the series. It's very odd and convoluted with a crazy cliffhanger. I feel like they were referencing stuff from earlier books that I had forgotten about. Also the vocabulary was a bit over-the-top at times--not just the British stuff, but the general SAT-type words were overdone. "
— Karina, 8/24/2012" There was some gross sci-fi in this one. The cover is a fair indicator of what's coming. "
