"This story is a bit off the beaten path with Holmes attempting to learn which of three students has cheated on academic work. Though different from his usual need to uncover a murderer or other serious criminal, all the hallmarks of Holmes's method are present."

" "For once you have fallen low. Let us see, in the future, how high you can rise." "
— Jacki, 7/24/2012" Saw the ending coming. It's nice to have figured it out, but it felt a little too easy. Still, a good story. "
— Billy, 5/16/2012" I listened to this on audiobook as part of the Great Classic Mysteries II collection. This was a typical Sherlock Holmes story, but it was quite nicely narrated by Simon Vance. "
— Amy, 6/24/2011" A little intrigue but not the best. "
— Sarah, 5/13/2010Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930) was born of Irish parentage in Scotland. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, but he also had a passion for storytelling. His first book introduced that prototype of the modern detective in fiction, Sherlock Holmes. Despite the immense popularity Holmes gained throughout the world, Doyle was not overly fond of the character and preferred to write other stories. Eventually popular demand won out and he continued to satisfy readers with the adventures of the legendary sleuth. He also wrote historical romances and made two essays into pseudoscientific fantasy: The Lost World and The Poison Belt.
