"Great book. I can't believe I've never read any Sherlock Holmes before! It sort of felt like a Scooby Doo mystery, in which there's a supernatural event with a perfectly reasonable explanation. Although I think Mr. Doyle would be appalled if he knew I compared his book to a children's TV show. But the mystery was intriguing, the setting was eerie, and the characters wonderful. I'd highly recommend! It was a quick read, too."

" The more Sir Arthur Conan Doyle I read, the more I am impressed with his writing, especially word choice. The mysteries are often not all that mysterious, but they're really good stories! "
— Don, 2/16/2014" Sekali lagi, kagum dan terpesona sama tokoh detektif fiktif legendaris ini. "
— Dion, 2/14/2014" it was good... Mr. Holmes is always worth reading... "
— Alejandra, 1/18/2014" Rachel was reading this for school, so I read it too. I loved it! And it was fun to howl like a dog to scare her when she was in her dark room trying to fall asleep. I wish I'd "discovered" these fun mystery books when I was young, instead of just reading and rereading Nancy Drew books endlessly. "
— Alicia, 1/8/2014" Spine tingling, real "edge of your seat" stuff. "
— Suzanne, 12/31/2013" This wasn't the best of the Sherlock Holmes stories which I have read - it was good, except that I felt the end was a little rushed. But it is an entertaining read. "
— Matthew, 12/29/2013" Great book it made me want to be an detective! "

— Todd, 12/17/2013" Truly a great mystery that you can't put down because you're anxious of what will happen next. Arthur Conan Doyle is a genius. "
— Ela, 12/12/2013" I like all of the Sherlock Holmes books. I don't think this is my favorite, but I like it. I had read it before and for some reason I couldn't remember "who done it." So on the second read, I paid closer attention but something about this book doesn't stick with me. It's good--just not great. "
— Lori, 10/12/2013" We had this in our Literature course in Standard IX. One of the most riveting mysteries that I've read till date. When Sherlock exclaims to 'He's a Stapleton'!! "
— Ankur, 10/5/2013" Ini kasus Holmes yang paling rumit menurut saya. Dalam kasus ini, logika Holmes dibenturkan oleh mitos mengenai kutukan keluarga Baskervilles. Saya merinding membacanya. "
— Irna, 6/21/2013" This was my first time reading Sherlock Holmes. I've been told this probably isn't the right book to start out with but I enjoyed it. It was thrilling! It was everything I expected a Sherlock Holmes story to be like and more! "
— Lindsey, 3/2/2013" It was a good story, and Holmes as a character is as intriguing as ever, but the mystery aspect was lacking a bit. It wasn't quite as thrilling as his short stories could be and the end wasn't very exciting. "
— Pete, 9/3/2012" In its time this was probably a pretty exciting thriller. It's still a good book but time has tamed it. "
— David, 7/9/2012" A wonderful and captivating story! Sir Arthur Conan Doyle really reached my expectations with this great novel and convinced me to read more of his work. "
— Andra, 4/24/2012" Some proper, old-fashioned suspense. I liked Sir Henry, by thunder. "
— Jesper, 4/11/2012" I love Sherlock Holmes. Quite clinical but very interesting reading. "
— Emma, 2/8/2012" Could not put it down! "
— Therese, 12/28/2011" Loved it. Sometimes classic mysteries can be too long, or not well paced, or without a lot of "draw", but this book just hit the nail on the head. "
— Darrell, 12/10/2011" Wow! Loved this book. Definately want to read more Sherlock Holmes books. "
— Sal, 10/2/2011" The Hound of the Baskervilles was written in old English. It has a good plot, but it is hard to follow. It is somewhat slow, and the mystery doesn't really begin to unfold until the very end. "
— Maggie, 9/10/2011" Not a big fan of mysteries, but felt like I was missing a major cultural marker by not having read any Sherlock Holmes. Enjoy this book and now know (at least in part) what all the fuss is about. "
— Faith, 8/29/2011" Not one of my favorite Holmes books, but OK. I have to read for book club, I am having tonight. "
— Marjorie, 8/10/2011" Classic. Love all of the Sherlock Holmes book, but this is one of my favourites thanks to it being set near where I grew up. "

— Raquel, 6/10/2011" There is nothing that needs said about this that has not already been said.

Although sometimes I wish that Holmes would be a TOUCH nicer to Watson? "
— Suzie, 6/10/2011Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930) was born of Irish parentage in Scotland. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, but he also had a passion for storytelling. His first book introduced that prototype of the modern detective in fiction, Sherlock Holmes. Despite the immense popularity Holmes gained throughout the world, Doyle was not overly fond of the character and preferred to write other stories. Eventually popular demand won out and he continued to satisfy readers with the adventures of the legendary sleuth. He also wrote historical romances and made two essays into pseudoscientific fantasy: The Lost World and The Poison Belt.
H. P. Lovecraft (1890–1937) was an American author who achieved posthumous fame through his influential works of horror fiction. Virtually unknown and only published in pulp magazines before he died in poverty, he is now regarded as one of the most significant twentieth-century authors in his genre. He was born in Providence, Rhode Island, where he lived most of his life. His relatively small corpus of work consists of three short novels and about sixty short stories.
