"Gabriel Allon pulled back into service when a new terrorist network sets of a wave of suicide bombers. He works with the daughter of a terrorist funder that he killed previously to infiltrate the terrorist group. Pretty interesting plot, decent writing. Silva gets a little carried away detail sometimes. Probably 3 1/2 stars."
— Bruce (4 out of 5 stars)
" Silva has another winner. If you like espionage, he's the best. I couldn't put it down. "
— Lyn, 2/20/2014" Silva's books are always a little over the top but that is part of their appeal. This, his latest, involves recruiting a fabulously wealthy Arab heiress to help rout out the leader of a deadly terrorist network. "
— Norma, 2/13/2014" Perhaps my favorite spy character. This book was not close to the best in the series, but I still enjoyed it. "
— Youndyc, 1/27/2014" Yet another excellent Gabriel Allon adventure "
— David, 1/23/2014" It seems like Gabriel Allon might finally be on the verge of retirement. In my mind, this may not be an entirely bad thing since I seem to having trouble maintaining interest in series after the sixth or seventh installment. Please don't imply from that that Portrait of a Spy is anything other than another well-crafted and enjoyable work from Mr. Silva. The story keeps you turning pages and is extraordinarily current. Mr. Silva is a talented writer and if Allon is denied his well deserved retirement I will continue reading the series but I think I would also be intrigued by a new Silva character. "
— doug, 1/23/2014" It took me a long time to really get into this book but once I did I really enjoyed it. Gabriel Allon is a complicated character as well as being very likable. The suspense was palpable. "
— Kara, 1/21/2014" I really enjoyed this book but so as not to spoil it for others will not go into the emotional roller coaster i felt that Silva had me on. "
— Psirene, 1/14/2014" These keep getting better and better. "
— Shoehn, 12/5/2013" Entertaining, as usual, but hard to believe the ending. Gabriel Allon, Israeli super-hero, assassin, spy, artist, and art restorer, and more of his adventures fighting the bad guys. "
— Margo, 11/30/2013" Listened to this on tape and really enjoyed it. #11 in the series, so we began reading at #1 and kept on going! "
— Erin, 11/17/2013" It was a good spy read. I've read a few of this series and after awhile they all kind of seem the same. But that's not necessarily bad. Good for the beach. "
— Ellin, 3/5/2013" I love this series! It's hard work to make every book involving the same character even better than the one before. Silva has opened the world of art restoring to me. I enjoy reading his author notes almost as much as the novel itself. "
— Sandra, 12/11/2012" Smart spy! The main character is an art restorer who works for the Mosad. There is action, current events, an art information. "
— Bonnie, 7/4/2012" Maybe not quite my FAVORITE Allon novel, but still a 'stay up late and turn the pages as fast as you can' spy thriller. Mossad flat-out GETS IT DONE against the bad people of the world. "
— Michael, 5/28/2012" This was an EXCELLANT story by Silva. Great characters, and believable story line. "
— Don, 2/9/2012" While I like this author, I think he was coasting on this book. He loaded it up with minor characters from his previous novels, so if you hadn't read his earlier Gabriel Allon books you were likely confused. Very formulaic. Disappointing. "
— Susan, 11/25/2011" Nothing new here. The formula is followed and continues to be entertaining. "
— Adam, 11/3/2011" Audio version - plot takes current headlines including an Israeli plot to assassinate a terror leader in Dubai, and makes a believable hero of a Saudi female from previous novels. Enjoyed this one more than the last couple of novels by Silva. "
— Vaughn, 9/7/2011" First time I have read Silva, and enjoyed the book. "
— Baxter, 7/30/2011" Having waited months for "Portrait of a Spy", I was not disappointed. Daniel Silva just continues to get better. I have absolutely loved all of Silva's Gabriel Allon series. Bring on #12! "
