Determined to sever his ties with the Office, Gabriel Allon has retreated to the windswept cliffs of Cornwall with his beautiful Venetian-born wife, Chiara. But once again his seclusion is interrupted by a visitor from his tangled past: the endearingly eccentric London art dealer Julian Isherwood. As usual, Isherwood has a problem. And it is one only Gabriel can solve.
In the ancient English city of Glastonbury, an art restorer has been brutally murdered and a long-lost portrait by Rembrandt mysteriously stolen. Despite his reluctance, Gabriel is persuaded to use his unique skills to search for the painting and those responsible for the crime. But as he painstakingly follows a trail of clues leading from Amsterdam to Buenos Aires and, finally, to a villa on the graceful shores of Lake Geneva, Gabriel discovers there are deadly secrets connected to the painting. And evil men behind them.
Before he is done, Gabriel will once again be drawn into a world he thought he had left behind forever, and will come face-to-face with a remarkable cast of characters: a glamorous London journalist who is determined to undo the worst mistake of her career, an elusive master art thief who is burdened by a conscience, and a powerful Swiss billionaire who is known for his good deeds but may just be behind one of the greatest threats facing the world.
Filled with remarkable twists and turns of plot, and told with seductive prose, The Rembrandt Affair is more than just summer entertainment of the highest order. It is a timely reminder that there are men in the world who will do anything for money.

"Daniel Silva's The Rembrandt Affair is a wonderful fast-paced thriller that traces a stolen Rembrandt painting whose storied history involves much bloodshed. Beyond that, I love the fact that Silva used this book to address several social and political issues that have always intrigued me, and one of those are the mysteries behind the Nazi looting of the priceless treasures owned by the Jews, and the evolving relationship between Israeli intelligence and foreign intelligence services. I simply could not put this book down, and despite the fact that this is a novel, I was intrigued by the story of how one powerful Swiss banker achieved success and wealth from ill-gotten treasure, and would do anything to protect that wealth. There are probably hundreds of stories like this, and I don't think we'll ever know what happened to all of the art and other treasure that was plundered by the Nazis, but The Rembrandt Affair, similar to Steve Berry's The Amber Room, gives the reader an interesting angle to think about."

" Gabriel Allon is one of my favorite characters in current fiction. And this is certainly current with the intelligence services of the U.S., Israel and England working together to keep Iran from having nuclear weapons. A fast-paced, exciting thriller. "
— Jo, 2/15/2014" If you like well constructed characters, spy intrigue and overall quality writing Dan Silva is for you. "
— Burt, 2/3/2014" Another great book in the Gabriel Allon series.... but I skipped 8 and 9 so have to go back and read those. "
— Ruth, 2/1/2014" The second of Daniel Silva's thrillers with Gabriel Allon as the main character. Enjoyable, not too heavy, but not quite as exciting as I had expected. "
— Nina, 1/30/2014" This, to me, is the best book Silva has written in years. I think Silva is a masterful story teller, and I really love his characters. He's so good, it's not that hard to put his Zionist politics aside long enough to enjoy the novels. It's worth it though - usually - and certainly for this book. "
— Amanda, 1/28/2014" I started this series WAY out of order but I will attest that even though this is #10 in a series, it works as a stand alone too. I have since gone back and read books 1-5 so far and I'm sure knowing Gabriel Allon as well as I do now would only add to my enjoyment but I'm glad I discovered this smart Israeli spy/art restorer. "
— Lucy, 12/23/2013" Very much enjoyed this book. I liked how history was woven into the story. I learned a lot about the theft of Jewish owned art during the holocaust. Fast moving and a very satisfying read. "
— Peggy, 12/14/2013" Always enjoy the Gabriel Allon novels - great suspense story. "
— Ann, 12/1/2013" I had just been in Switzerland, where much of the book takes place. Extra element of fun because of this. Good story. "
— Jackie, 10/25/2013" Not my favorite Gabriel Allon. Maybe after the Kharkov books, Ive had enough of the wealthy nearly omnipotent villain formula? And, I wish Chiara had a more significant role. "
— Lisa, 10/17/2013" The Rembrandt Affair is a fast-paced thriller with abundant references to recent events, as well as parallels clearly drawn between events past and current. A very good book, and one that you will finish all too quickly. "
