While covertly investigating a controversial neurological research program, exposé filmmaker Jevin Banks is drawn into a far-reaching conspiracy involving one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical firms. Jevin is seeking not only answers about the questionable mind-to-mind communication program but also answers to his own family tragedy. "ANOTHER great Steven James character is created! Can't wait for book 2 starring "magician" , Jevin Banks. Lots more philosophical discussion in this series. I started to see the "Christian" label for James becoming true."

Quotes

  • “Gripping and intense, it will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page.”

    — Gayle Lynds, New York Times bestselling author
  • “Fascinating, gripping, and thrilling—I loved this book. The Master Storyteller has woven another spell in Placebo, where the lines of science, reality, and fiction blur into one compelling tale. Intelligent and absolutely unputdownable, you will lose sleep over this one.”

    — Tosca Lee, New York Times bestselling author
  • “Presto! The Bowers Files disappear and James’ new series explodes onto the fiction stage with Jevin Banks, an escape artist who tragically loses his family and his nerve for his craft…The writing, pacing, and plot lines are impeccable, the author always pulling up the shade a bit for a shaft of light and redemption to make gruesome scenes somehow bearable. Much isn’t fully resolved, but that’s why readers like series and are happy to let money vanish and reappear in the pockets of masterful novelists like James.”

    — Publishers Weekly
  • “With every new book, Steven James elevates his game and lifts his readers with him. Placebo is a winner! Highly recommended.”

    — Davis Bunn, bestselling author of Lion of Babylon

" I am normally a huge fan of Steven James. His writing style is just incredible, and I love being able to see things from the point of view of all of the major characters. This book was not as enjoyable as his others have been for me. I found the storyline to be very intriguing but the technical language was a bit overwhelming at times. Steven James always does a great amount of research into his books before writing them which I highly respect, but I felt like I needed a background in quantam physics among other things to really understand parts of this book. Overall, I did enjoy it even when I had to muddle through sections and will read the next one. "
