Publisher Description

Intelligence, espionage, and even war have been transformed by the War on Terror. With the CIA on the ropes and the armed forces stretched thin, the United States and its allies have turned to private organizations for vital inside information.

Camille Black's Black Management is one of these private military corporations. She is approached by the CIA for an extremely important mission: to track down and eliminate a man accused of selling arms to terrorist cells throughout the Middle East—but her quarry is her ex-fianc├®, Hunter Smith. Battling her old feelings but fueled by his disloyalty both to her and to his country, Camille sets off into the shadows of the War on Terror to find him. Her hunt takes her far beyond the frontlines, and the further she goes, the more the lines between good and evil begin to blur—and she is not sure whom to trust.

"Wow! Although this is fiction, it was such an eye-opener into the Iraq War and the outsourcing of America's military. It is pretty violent and there is some vulgar language, but the author only uses strong words when he needs to."

Quotes

  • “A terrific thriller that reads like the very best nonfiction.”

    — James Patterson, #1 New York Times bestselling author
  • “A wild ride behind today’s war zone headlines.”

    — W. E. B. Griffin, #1 New York Times bestselling author
  • “Ripped from the headlines or a preview of tomorrow’s headlines? Either way, you’ll love this book.”

    — Lee Child, #1 New York Times bestselling author
  • “Hillhouse displays [her] expertise on virtually every page, and Huber goes with the flow—keeping things clean and cool no matter how hot the action gets. Huber is fine at catching the complex characters…Listening to Huber’s excellent reading adds to the pleasure of Hillhouse’s solid plotting and storytelling and should convince listeners that both author and reader are talents to watch.”

    — Publishers Weekly
  • “Set in Iraq, the thriller has plenty to grab the listener's attention: mystery, action, sex, corruption, and enough dead bodies to make a Bruce Willis movie. Hillhouse, a former spy, masterfully links her story to real news events and government reports, creating a heightened sense of realism…Hillary Huber is effective in creating the multiple characters. She draws on many accents…and variations in cadence to paint vivid and credible scenes.”

    — AudioFile
  • "Hillhouse's much-ballyhooed debut is going to create quite a stir, and justly so. Based on her own adventures as a black-market smuggler between East and West Berlin and bolstered by meticulous research, the story shimmers with authenticity. An original voice of unusual authority, a resourceful female protagonist, sexual undertones, explosive tension, and tradecraft galore add up to a spellbinding tale. Expect heavy demand, as this appeals to male and female readers alike. Highly recommended.”

    — Library Journal
  • “Chillingly authentic. Terrifyingly true. To understand what’s happening in our world, you need to read this book.”

    — David Morrell, creator of Rambo and author of Scavengers

" In my opinion, the overall theme was never fully realized. It read like a boilerplate spy-romance with extra gun talk. I found the chapter quotes and afterword were the best part of the book. "

" Read at the request of my brother. Interesting in exploring the contract warrior and how the face of war is changing in the 21st century. Not an excellent book, but interesting in content. "
