Sure, his family isn't typical—Josh knows that. He's a twelve-year-old orphan being raised by his eighteen-year-old aunt. When Grandpa and Uncle Charlie start making plans to find Auntie Lou a husband—and take away the only mother Josh has ever known—he knows something has to be done. His family has shaped the young man he has become. Now, as he grows into manhood, he begins to face important questions about life, love, and faith. How can he find his way when his whole world threatens to come apart?
Trying desperately to cling to the life he's always had, Josh does what he can to keep his aunt single. But when a preacher comes along, Josh sees that things are going to get complicated.

"I did enjoy this book. The main themes were faith in God, family and community, finding fullfillment and joy in men's/women's roles, along with the love and value of hard work, and the beauty of the earth and what each season brings for us. Harvest time was Josh's favorite season. It reiterated for me that God allows some things to happen for our own growth, that we may blossom like the petunias that have been exposed to rain, sun, and bees for their own growth and good. Anyone who believes in God struggles at some time with the questions and anger that Josh struggles with when life brings hardship and it is inspiring to walk the journey with him."

" This is the first book in Josh Jones life. Halrious, yet sweet. You'll love it. "
— Meadow, 2/18/2014" Haven't read this author much, but was ready for something light and family friendly. It didn't disapoint. Will do another one on the next road trip. "
— Janet, 2/14/2014" Loved it! Fun, easy read that is sort of a "good ol' days" book. My favorite kind! "
— Megan, 2/5/2014" I started reading it last year, but never finished. So I am reading it again! "
— Beth, 2/3/2014" This was an awsome series about a the life of a young boy named Josh. "
— Phage, 1/30/2014" Yet another series. The others I have read by Janette Oke have all been written with a female as the main character. This series is told by Josh and it was a good change. He lives with his Aunt Lou (all of maybe 20) and his Uncle and Grandfather. This book talks about experiences in his youth, meeting his great grandfather and the internal struggle of watching the older men try to get his Aunt, who is the closest thing he's had to a mother, married off. "
— Christine, 1/28/2014" Enjoyed this book very much! Even though I had read the 3rd book in this series first, I enjoyed this story of Josh Jones and his family. The focus of this book was on Josh's young aunt, Lou. "
— Connie, 1/19/2014" Fun, quick read. A real page turner. "
— Jenifer, 1/17/2014" Sweet story. Told thru the eyes of a 12 year old boy. Easy to see how some of it will turn out. Plan to read the next in the series since it is easy to read. Good story telling! "
— Beverly, 1/16/2014" Book on CD. Typical Janetter Oke. The story telling was okay, and I liked it better than some of her other books. At times I felt a bit spoon fed with the story and the lessons, and the characters could have been more developed, but overall a good clean read. "
— Brenda, 1/10/2014" This is a story of a young boy who struggles to keep God in his life dispite the loses in his life. "
— Shannon, 12/11/2013" This is the story of Joshua who was orphaned as an infant and now lives with his grandfather, aunt lou and great uncle. It is completely from the 13 year old boys perspective in the early 1900s so you get some fun antics and make believe along with his worries for the future. "
— Annalisa, 12/6/2013" Sweet story of a boy growing up. Great read! "
— Courtney, 11/20/2013" This book is the first book of Season of Heart series. Josh grew up by his Aunt (who was only 6 years older than him), Grandfather, and Great Grandfather. Through this odd form of family, Josh learn about God and to trust his life to Him. "
— Jenny, 10/25/2013" I read this book at some point in my teens, upon my mom's recommendation. I remember liking it at the time, but I don't remember much about it. "
— Nick, 10/23/2013" I really like reading a story without wondering if there's going to be anything objectionable on the next page. I liked the character of Aunt Lou and was anxious to return to the library to get the rest of the series. "
— Kassie, 10/10/2013" I loved this book. It was refreshing. I liked the way they talked. They drop the g off everthing. "
— Danni, 9/16/2013" I was really pleasantly surprised. I actually liked this book a lot more than I thought I would. The last time I tried reading Janette Oke seems like ages ago. I didn't really like it much then and never tried it again till now. "
— benebean, 8/26/2013" I really enjoyed this book! At first I couldn't seem to get past the use of words such as "iffin and crik", but when you realize it's from a kid's (a boy at that) perspective, it seemed much more acceptable. I thought it was a very easy and enjoyable read. "
— Jessica, 8/1/2013" Read all 4 of the Seasons of the Heart series. Good story of an orphaned boy raised by a loving grandfather and aunt. "
— Gina, 6/26/2013" An orphaned boy finds his security in God after his aunt, who has raised him, marries and moves away. Seasons of the Heart book 1. "
— Christy, 5/29/2013" I have "read" this 2x. I loved it. I liked how they all got along together, especially Josh & Gramps. "
— Odetta, 5/23/2013" Simple, somewhat predictable, storyline; but enjoyable nevertheless. Stereotypical, but well-drawn, characters. I nice diversionary read. "
— Joan, 3/25/2013" Good clean series, I hated to finish them. Highly recommend. "
— Donna, 10/19/2012" It was great book to get you informed about the characters and kept my attention so I would want to read the rest of the story. Some parts I had to use my imagination to get through the situation. But then again it isn't easy to try and express a 13 year old boys feelings. "
— Terri, 4/22/2012" This is another great series that I love to read! "
— Jenny, 12/20/2011" so cute, i loved it "

— Tiffany, 7/20/2011" This book was well written (it felt like i was reading a letter from that time period). I was a little skeptical at first but once i started reading it i was sucked in. It's a good short story about only 200 pages. I did feel a lot of compassion for the characters in this book. "
— Mary, 1/31/2011" Probably my favorite of the Janette Oke books that I have read. Endearing characters, funny situations, and a feel good love story. "
— Callie, 10/2/2010" I had a little of a hard time getting through this book. But it is good. "
