When Bishop learns of Carstairs’ intention to send Mrs. Pollifax to Africa in search of a professional killer with the unlikely nom de guerre of “Aristotle,” he argues about the wisdom of this idea.
“She’s tangled with them before,” points out Carstairs, “but this time she doesn’t have to tangle with anyone at all, just take photographs.”
So, with a new bulbous straw hat (which looks remarkably like a cork helmet), a multi-colored sun umbrella, and a lapel pin containing a miniature camera capable of taking 40 snapshots, Mrs. Pollifax embarks for Zambia.
Of course, the good-natured grandmother from New Brunswick ends up finding a little good in all of her fellow explorers. But when someone sneaks into her room while she is bathing and swipes her first completed roll of film, Mrs. Pollifax realizes there is a dangerous creature nearby—far more dangerous than anything she might stumble across in the jungle.

"My dad introduced me to the Mrs. Pollifax series awhile back. It's an old series - about a Grandma who becomes a spy - SOO fun and full of interesting info! I got them all and loved them! (= "
— Shena (4 out of 5 stars)
" I have to get a Mrs. Pollifax book every once in awhile. They are all great. "
— Vicki, 4/13/2011" The earlier Mrs. Pollifax mysteries are delightful. The later ones are also fun to read but not as carefully plotted and have too many loose ends. "
— Maureen, 12/19/2010" This book came out in 1976 I think, but if you're a fan of cozy mysteries or Miss Marple you'll probably like it. I liked it partly because the heroine is an older woman. "
— Elaine, 9/18/2010" Another fun light read about this hilarious gal! "
— Traci, 6/15/2010" Farrell is back! I love the banter between Farrell and Mrs. Pollifax. Also, Mrs. Pollifax meets Mr. Reed on this trip. "
— Sarah, 6/10/2010" I loved this series. They were fun to read and the old lady has spunk! I was sad when I'd finally read them all... maybe I'll read them all again! "
— Diane, 5/26/2010" This is my favorite of the books so far, I guess besides the first. It brought back some fun characters, and introduced some new (I think long-term) interesting ones. "
— Jennifer, 5/24/2010" I love this series of books. Mrs Pollifax goes to such interesting locations where such interesting politics is going on. In this book, she travels to Zambia for a safari, and the politics of the day is the creation of Zimbabwe. It was an interesting book and lots of fun, as usual! "
