Kinsey Millhone's latest client is Malek Construction, a $40 million company still in family hands. It doesn't take an accountant to see that the four Malek brothers stand to inherit a fortune. But one of the brothers has been missing for 18 years, and Kinsey's assignment is to find him. The stock of family memories is filled with nothing but bitterness, and the prodigal son will find no comfort at the Malek table. If there's one thing that goes hand in hand with bad blood, it's murder -- and that's just around the corner.

"This was my first Sue Grafton book and I loved it! Now I want to go back and start the series at letter "A" to see how her novels progress. A suspenseful murder mystery mixed with interesting and very real characters, humor and psychological musings...a good read!"
— Mary (5 out of 5 stars)
" One of my faves in this series...didn't see who dunnit 'til the very end! "
— Carol, 2/13/2014" (one review for series) ***** for the first book because I like the series enough to last till about R, now want more to find new authors, and finish another year. The rest get 3-4* because I cannot remember my favorites. I like strong, brave females who make choices and deal with consequences successfully. I like mysteries. I like funny eccentric, her odd sandwich and cute old landlord choices. Southern California feels warm and dry on a long cold Canadian winter. She always seems to go alone in the dark to meet the bad guy and get shot at the end (no,no), but why mess with success? "
— Anne, 2/2/2014" Good, not great, but a fun read. The supernatural angle, however, was cheesy. "
— Greg, 1/24/2014" Kinsey Millhone is a fun and spunky PI heroine. The alphabet series is great because it takes place starting in 1982. PI work seems terribly rudimentary before cellphones, the internet and other modern technology. References to gabardine suits and Chardonnay are greatly appreciated. "
— Rachel, 1/21/2014" I love Sue Grafton & Kinsey Milhone. This one wasn't quite as good as some of the others, but still good. I started it on vacation in March and just now finished. Can't wait to read some of the others as soon as I can figure out which ones I haven't read! "
— Jeans77, 1/12/2014" This is the best of the series so far. I really liked the story line and it felt like more than a fluff, entertaining mystery. "
— Bonnie, 1/11/2014" Another fast fun read. This one better that the last one I read. I am continuing with Grafton's Kinsey Millhone series in the order she wrote them. "
— Betty, 1/7/2014" I hope Sue highlighted more scenes about the relationship between Kinsey and Guy Malek. "
— Edmark, 1/5/2014" This is one of the in-the-middle-of-the-alphabet Grafton mysteries that I wasn't that crazy about. She is still worth reading though. "
— Kimberly, 12/17/2013" Awesome just like all of her books. "
— Erin, 12/11/2013" Another witty adventure for Kinsey Milhone! Great entertainment value "
— Liz, 11/3/2013" I am having a hard time getting into this one... "
— Theresa, 9/23/2013" Good escapist reading. I enjoy Grafton's writing style. "
— Debbie, 9/10/2013" I liked this - a bit more about Kinsey's personal life - interesting character development. (I sort of guessed who it was about 1/2 way through tho) "
— Mary-Frances, 8/26/2013" I really wanted to like this, since I really like the person who suggested this series... but I don't. The writing is sophmoric, the plot is weak, and the characters are too flat. It didn't help that the narration was mediocre. "
— Hope, 4/21/2013" I LOVE LOVE This book I never thought it would be her!!!!!!! "
— Chris, 3/2/2013" another good one from sue grafton "
— Readstoomuch, 1/26/2013" Another good mystery in the Kinsey Millhone series. I love these books- they are usually around 300 pages, so a fairly quick read with plenty of suspense. "
— Lesley, 12/14/2012" I have this whole series in hardback, have read thru M. Love them all, Grafton is great and I love Kinsey. "
— Sparker4, 12/5/2012" can't go wrong with Grafton - light, fun, entertaining "
— Jean, 10/24/2012" I think this book in the series is among my favorites. "
— H3dakota, 9/16/2012" Another good Kinsey novel...as always. can't ever put these down! "
— Tina, 9/12/2012" I heard Sue Grafton's interview on NPR and got interested in her series.....Reading an "investigation" after a long time...reminds me of the Perry Mason/Agatha Christie days :-)Interesting read so far. "
— Jubeet, 8/28/2012" Not my favorite in the series. My mind kept wandering so I'd have to replay chapters. I like a mystery that grips and this wasn't it. Disappointing, but one can't expect every story an author writes to be top-notch. Still love the author and I like the series "
— Sharon, 7/22/2012" I read all the books in this series. They are nothing earth-shattering and after reading a few, you can see the formula. But I like the Kinsey character and they are easy and fun to read. "
— Thenerdmom, 11/18/2011" 3.5 stars. Sue Grafton's books are always good for a quick and easy read. Millhone is a likeable character, and the stories are always quickly paced. Not one of my favourite Kinsey books, but definitely a pleasure to read none-the-less. "
— Kelly, 11/13/2011" Kinsey finds a brother who is then murdered. she develops her relationship with Dietz as well "
— Kimberlyn, 8/26/2011" I was way off on who committed the crime in this one. Love when that happens. "
— meg, 6/20/2011" Okay, I thought this should be "M" is for Margie — again, Sue chose something different. Oh well, just keep writing these great books! "
— Margiek2000, 5/24/2011" Another Sue Grafton excellent novel. Please tell me there are more letters in the alphabet than 26! "
— Carol, 4/11/2011" I LOVE LOVE This book I never thought it would be her!!!!!!! "
— Chris, 4/7/2011" another good one from sue grafton "
— Readstoomuch, 3/24/2011" I was a bit perturbed by this one. I was blown away when the killer was revealed. I didn't get that at all. LOL it was also sad, but I like the vulnerability shown in Kinsey in this book. I really enjoyed the book overall. "
— Sassafrass, 2/14/2011" I'm working my way through Sue Grafton's Kinsey Millhone series. They've all been really good so far, the type of mystery book that I finish reading in one or two nights. This was actually one of the disappointing in the series. The murder didn't even happen until over half way through the book. "
— Christina, 2/6/2011" It was a good one. I didn't figure this one out till the very end. I'm running our of letters tho. I haven't read any of Grafton's books except the alphabet books. I'll have to look and see what else she has written. "
— Carol, 1/26/2011" Another well-written murder mystery. What can I say except what I've said before? I didn't know whodunnit till I got to the end of the book. Didn't want to put it down. "
— Kathryn, 1/13/2011" I read all the books in this series. They are nothing earth-shattering and after reading a few, you can see the formula. But I like the Kinsey character and they are easy and fun to read. "
— Thenerdmom, 12/31/2010" Book #144 for the 2010 52 Books in 52 Week Ravelry Challenge. "

— Curlyhair, 12/18/2010" This was my first exposure to this author and the jury is still out. "
— Cindy, 11/18/2010" can't go wrong with Grafton - light, fun, entertaining "
— Jean, 10/29/2010" Probably would have like this better if I'd read A-L first. My bad! "
