" I had a hard time with the wording right away, but once I got into it, it was a really good book. Takes place a long time ago, so they speak differently. "

" I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the pull between religion and culture, family and community expectations and the needs and wants of self. I think a lot of people in a close knit community can identify on some level to the main characters in the novel. "

" I can only say that this book surprised me and pulled me into a world where matters of the heart don't come often or easy. I thought this book is probably more true to reality of then and even now. A thought provoking read that lingers long after the last page has been read. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Danielle Johnson | 11/30/2013

" A good book. Not exactly what I expected with the story or the ending. Makes you feel grateful to live in a time where women have the right to choose who they marry! "

" The writing and story-telling were good and what I expect from this author. The time and setting gave a very realistic feeling of life in a Puritan colony. But I just didn't "like" the story much ... most likely because part of the ending was NOT what I wanted to have happen! "

" Very Strange story. It almost remined me of the movie "The Village". The parts where the author was trying to make the romance come alive were just gross to me. I guess if you like picking lice out of men's hair then go for it. "
