Publisher Description

Multiple Christy Award finalist Siri Mitchell is critically acclaimed for her sweeping historical romances. Setting this tale in 1918 Boston against the backdrop of the Great War and the influenza pandemic, Mitchell contrasts the traditional Italian upbringing of three young ladies with the bustling American lifestyle they crave. As they toil in an elegant gown shop, Julietta, Annamaria, and Lucianna hope one day to embrace the American dream and find true love. "Loved this book! It was a great glimpse into life in early 20th century America and the life of Italian immigrant. It is always obvious the amount of research that this author puts into her books. This book is no different. We get to follow the lives of 3 Italian girls whose personalities and backgrounds could not be more different. This author is truely a master storyteller. Her manner of telling the story was a bit unique - and were it any other author, I am not sure that it would have worked for me. But somehow, she made it work - as omniscient narrator and observer of the lives being played out, with random comments here and there...Highly recommend this book!"

" This is the fourth book by Siri Mitchell that I've read. It amazes me how different her writing style is for each of her books. I don't know what to expect. I absolutely loved Love's Pursuit, but this is the third one that has been a disappointment. I find the writing style strange. The author is trying to talk directly to you throughout, but it comes across as out-of-place and uncomfortable. I made it half way through and I'm so bored that I can't finish. "

" A book I purchased for my Kinde... I think it was on sale for 2.99. I had read another book by this author and really enjoyed it. This was one good, but not as good as I remember the other one being. Pretty predictable, and it drug a bit in spots, but I did enjoy it. Three young immigrant women are working in a gown maker's shop in Boston, during World War I, when the Spanish influenza swept through, killing millions of people (more people than were killed in World War I). Good historical info that I hadn't really been all that aware of. "

" I did not like this as much as Mitchell's book "She Walks in Beauty." It was a sweet story and an interesting fictional history of Italian immigrants in America, but I didn't completely identity with the characters. Not a bad read though. "

" An engaging story that kept my interest. The author wove God throughout, but I did wish she had been a bit more evangelical in her presentation of HIm. Still, she did a good job of highlighting how He is foundational to our lives and the importance of forgiveness. "

There were multiple characters and yet I felt they all came to life and were satisfactorily developed. I would definitely recommend this book! "
