Publisher Description

One day I was twelve years old and broke. I set out to mow some lawns with Grandpa’s old riding mower. One client was Arnold the stockbroker, who offered to teach me about: the beauty of capitalism. Supply and demand. Diversifying labor. Distributing the wealth. “It’s groovy, man,” Arnold said.

The grass grew, and so did business. Arnold invested my money in many things. One of them was a prizefighter. All of a sudden I was the sponsor of my very own fighter, Joey Pow. That’s when my twelfth summer got really interesting.

Gary Paulsen’s comic story about a summer job becomes a slapstick lesson in business as one boy turns a mountain of grass into a mountain of cash.

"Lawn Boy is about a boy that get's a lawn mower for his birthday from his grandpa. Then he mow's his lawn and the neighbor asks him to mow his. The neighbor pays him twenty dollars mowing his lawn. Then his other neighbor has him mow his lawn and he makes 60.00 dollars a week. Then he starts mowing everyones lawn and he hates it."

" I read this in 6th grade but I remember that I loved it. It was really short, but I finished it in time to do my book report on it! It was so great. If anyone is looking for a quick read, this 90 page book would be perfect! It was really, really good! :-) "

" A very fast read, though the vocab and math ideas are pretty sophisticated, so I'm not sure it's a shoo-in for reluctant readers. There's not a lot of character development or even plot (as you might imagine given the short length). It's more a book centered around an idea, a "what if." It's fun, but I'm not quite sure who it appeals to... it's one of those books where I'd have to get kids' reactions. Could be good in a school setting to talk about math and economics. "
