A breathtaking journey toward self-discovery and true love, from the author of If I Stay When sheltered American good girl Allyson "LuLu" Healey first meets laid-back Dutch actor Willem De Ruiter at an underground performance of Twelfth Night in England, there’s an undeniable spark. After just one day together, that spark bursts into a flame, or so it seems to Allyson, until the following morning, when she wakes up after a whirlwind day in Paris to discover that Willem has left. Over the next year, Allyson embarks on a journey to come to terms with the narrow confines of her life, and through Shakespeare, travel, and a quest for her almost-true-love, to break free of those confines. Just One Day is the first in a sweepingly romantic duet of novels. Willem’s story—Just One Year—is coming soon!

"If I could give this book more than five stars, I would. I haven't been this affected by a book in a very long time. It is a jewel. Wanderlust is a side effect, so just be prepared to fly out on the next plane to Europe after finishing this book."
— Keli (5 out of 5 stars)
“Offering mystery, drama, and an evocative portrait of unrequited love, this open-ended novel will leave fans eagerly anticipating the companion story—written from Willem’s perspective—due in fall 2013.”
— Publishers Weekly“[A]...coming-of-age novel that...soars at the finish.”
— Kirkus Reviews" 3.5 stars. It took me a while to really get into this book and all the Shakespeare parts were really not my thing but I enjoyed Allyson by the end. I'll be reading the next book to see how it all pans out. "
— Leah, 2/10/2014" I absolutely loved this book. So well written, the story was fantastic, and I could relate on many levels. I really enjoyed the self discovery involved. "
— Kibbenza, 1/31/2014" I NEED THE NEXT BOOK NOW!!! "
— M.J., 1/31/2014" 3.5 stars - If anything, this book perhaps suffers from high expectations from the author's previous two novels. If I Stay and Where She Went both broke my heart and blew me away. This one, less so. Though I still liked Allyson as a character and sympathized with her perfectionism and over-planning/anxiety, I thought the relationship component with Willem at the beginning and end felt tacked on (why I had a tough time getting into the book at first). More a ruse to get readers to "tune in next time, folks" than to actually remain true to the characters. I will still likely read the sequel, but not with as much relish as Forman's first two-parter. "
— Meghan, 1/29/2014" Absolutely exquisite. I JUST WANT SOME ANSWERS THOUGH! "
— Erin, 1/26/2014" There is something about the way gayle forman writes that sets her apart from other YA writers. Her characters come alive, and even if you are only given mere snippets of who they are you feel for them completely. I wanted to know more about her friends, about who she is as a person. The ending does leave you on the tip of your toes , but in the end this book wasn't typical . I am really looking forward to the next installment "
— Maryam, 1/24/2014" Loved, loved, loved it! The romance was excellent, but even more fabulous was Allyson's emotional journey. It felt very real. Can't wait for Just One Year! "
— Robin, 1/9/2014" I totally didn't expect that ending. NEXT BOOK PLEASE. "
— Claire, 11/6/2013" Awesome. B) "
— Leensey, 10/31/2013" Yay! Love Gayle Forman! "
— Danielle, 10/6/2013" I read this book in JUST ONE DAY. I appreciated the realistic challenges Allysib faced as she went through the process of growing into her own person, rather than the one her parents intended her to be. Can't wait for the next one! "
— Jess, 8/18/2013" I just have no words....I guess you could say that I LOVED it, but only like a LOT. Seriously, this book just is amazing and beautiful and I beyond need to read the next part about Willem!!!! "
— Rachel, 6/2/2013" Actual rating was 4.6 "
— Sara, 5/30/2013" With a whiny, unlikable narrator, this teen romance was too difficult for me as an adult to take. I think teenage girls will like it for it's Before Sunrise storyline, but I wish it had a stronger female protagonist. "
— Carrie, 5/29/2013" This was the best book. Wow. I can't say enough about it. Wonderful! "
— Stacy, 4/24/2013" Started off a bit slow (I actually didn't really love the Paris part), but I really loved the college and search parts. Allyson's journey to self-discovery was so well done. "
