The only thing Jean Honeychurch hates more than her boring name (not Jean Marie, or Jeanette, just . . . Jean) is her all-too-appropriate nickname, Jinx. Misfortune seems to follow her everywhere she goes–which is why she’s thrilled to be moving in with her aunt and uncle in New York City. Maybe when she’s halfway across the country, Jinx can finally outrun her bad luck. Or at least escape the havoc she’s caused back in her small hometown. But trouble has definitely followed Jinx to New York. And it’s causing big problems for her cousin Tory, who is not happy to have the family black sheep around. Beautiful, glamorous Tory is hiding a dangerous secret–one that she’s sure Jinx is going to reveal. Jinx is beginning to realize it isn’t just bad luck she’s been running from. It’s something far more sinister . . . and the curse Jinx has lived under since the day she was born might just be the only thing that can save her life.

"I heart Meg Cabot. She is my guilty pleasure, I invariably have to read her books regardless of their age range. I could probably quote her writing style at this point; it is familiar and yet comforting in all her to books. Think lots of fragments and thoughts said out loud ;) This book? Cute, absolutely. She totally has a way of making my thirty something self giggle over the romantic lead. How, I don't know, but I suspect it has to do with her self-deprecating humor. I can relate to that :)"

" Quick, easy read. The characters were a lot of fun and the whole story was very well put together. Reminded me of the old(ish) movie The Craft. "
— Alison, 1/21/2014" Odds are good you'll be able to figure out exactly where the book is going to end up well before it gets there. Don't worry about it, the ride is still worth it. Even as you find yourself asking something, the moment you turn the page, the issue is addressed. I read it pretty much in one gulp and wished for more. "
— Marian, 1/18/2014" Exactly my kind of book! Loved it. "
— Nazan, 1/12/2014" Listened to the book on CD on a recent road trip. Very teeny-bopper but kept me entertained on the long drive. "
— Anjiebringhurst, 12/29/2013" This was another good Meg Cabot book, and perfect for reading around Halloween time. Jinx has had bad luck all her life, but it may have something to do with the family legend of witch powers being passed down through the generations. After a bad situation back home in Iowa, Jinx goes to NYC to live with her aunt and uncle and their family. She makes new friends (and enemies) and tries to figure out what is going on with her cousin that used to be her good friend. This was probably more like a 3 1/2. The end was surprisingly tense. "
— Brittany, 12/29/2013" cute book. i may get this for my best friends daughter. "
— Michelle, 12/29/2013" Awesome book, it was funny and romantic and crazy at the same time!! There was a villan a hero a hot guy and a problem!!! Haha Love the Book and The author!!! "
— Sarah-anne, 12/27/2013" Teen witches in New York. "
— Jennifer, 12/10/2013" OMG, how clueless can the heroine be? The story was good, but I just wanted the main character to get a clue. Enjoyable, light, beachy read with a really good narrator for the audiobook. And, unlike a lot of YA these days, a standalone book. "
— Kathy, 12/4/2013" Fast read being a teen chicklit type novel. It was good. I'd wager Cabot's on her way to another series. "
— Julia, 11/12/2013" Probably my favorite Meg Cabot thus far. "
