Publisher Description

The internationally bestselling author, "squarely in the ranks of Patricia Cornwell and Kathy Reichs" (Publisher's Weekly), shows off her superb talent with this brilliantly conceived, skillfully executed tale of suspense.

In Karin Slaughter's exciting new thriller, an officer is shot point-blank in the Grant County police station and Police Chief Jeffrey Tolliver is wounded, setting off a terrifying hostage situation with medical examiner Sara Linton at the center. Working outside the station, Lena Adams, newly reinstated to the force, and Frank Wallace, Jeffrey's second in command, must try to piece together who the shooter is and how to rescue their friends before Jeffrey dies. For the sins of the past have caught up with Sara and Jeffrey -- with a vengeance ...

Deftly interweaving present and past, Slaughter -- dubbed "the new face of crime" by Book Magazine -- offers another brilliant knife-edge tale of suspense that cements her place among the most outstanding practitioners of crime fiction today.

"I really enjoyed this Heitzmann novel! I absolutely loved that you got to see Jonah and Tia again and Piper and Miles! It was super fun to have them in this book! I love love Trevor. He is so sweet to Natalie :) I enjoyed the overall plot although the "bad guy" was super creepy. I wasn't in love with the ending though!! There wasn't enough information about how Fluer ended up and Piper/Miles ! But other than that I really love Natalie and Trevor's ending :) so cute! I love kristen heiztmann!!!!!!! It wasn't my favorite Heitzmann novel but I enjoyed it alot!"

" Kristen Heitzmann's writing continues to enthrall. Her prose style has great lyrical moments, her characters are quirky without losing believability, and while God is present, she never preaches. This book continues to follow characters introduced in "Indivisible." "

" It was an interesting read. I really like Kriten Heitzmann books. She tells the story of such broken people and how they become whole. I read the first one in the series, but it was a long time ago, so many of the characters that should have been familiar weren't. "
