The writing tandem of Rita Mae Brown and her feline collaborator Sneaky Pie craft the nineteenth tantalizing mystery from their New York Times bestselling Mrs. Murphy series. In Hiss of Death, even a grave illness cannot keep Mary Minor “Harry” Haristeen from investigating a suspicious death.

Spring is in the air, and Harry is looking forward to her first season of harvesting grapes—until she learns she has stage one breast cancer. Confined to a hospital, Harry is distracted from her condition when popular nurse Paula Benton—organizer of the 5K run for breast cancer awareness—turns up dead. When another hospital staffer kicks the bucket soon after, it falls to Harry and her animal friends to crack the case.

With Harry fighting her courageous battle—and her faithful animals providing their loyal support—Hiss of Death ranks among the most emotional tales from this beloved series.

" did not finish..if I want a lecture, I'll choose to attend, I'm afraid I'm through with Ms. Brown. "

" I love this series. It's like visiting with old friends. Comfortable yet something new every book. I also love the animals' take on what's going on. Rita Mae Brown is spot on- she clearly is an animal person herself. "

" The animals didn't play as big a role this time, and RMB is very preachy about healthcare, cancer, etc. "

" I have officially outgrown this author and her simplistic views. Loved the early books and characters but time to move on. "

" I always enjoy a visit with the talking animals, but the humans in this one were extraordinarily preachy. "

" A short Mrs. Murphy mystery. Enjoyable as usual but weighted by Harry's brush with cancer. "

" Mrs. Murphy, Pewter and Tucker once again steal the show, or in this case, story, from their human companion, giving the reader all the clues needed to solve the crime as their slower human plods ever onward till she is able to solve the mystery! "

" I always enjoy reading these mysteries for light-harted laughter at the antics of the animals and the characters that have appeared in all Ms. Brown's novels. However, I found her very preachy in this novel which took away some of my enjoyment. "
