"I've read them all...and ALL of Rita Mae Brown's books in the Mrs. Murphy--the sleekest, smartest cat ever-- series are fun reading. They're like potato chips--you can't eat just one. The fact that Harry is/was the postmistress of a small Virginia town and a great horsewoman in the middle of Virginia horse country is a big plus. And the animal part of the adventure is well done--if I ever have a Corgi, it'll be named Tucker, and every snotty fat gray cat I come across is Pewter. The animal help in solving all of Harry's mysteries is family work at it's best..."

" I read 30 pages of this & couldn't stand to read any more because it's not at all realistic. The animals communication (talking) is in italics. The other thing is that the animals go everywhere with their "mom" (aka owner) - they ride in the car & get out at the different places she visits. It's just a little weird, maybe because I'm not imaginative enough. "

" I really wanted to like this book, but I've just concluded that I don't care for Rita Mae Brown's writing style. The character of Harry was very endearing, as were the pets that help her solve crimes...but there was quite a bit of it that was predictable. "

" Anyone in the mood for mind-candy? If you are, I'd recommend one of the fun reads in Rita Mae Brown's detective series. Her animals (a Corgi and two cats) solve crimes and take care of their humans with humor and style. "

" I love Rita Mae Brown's Mrs Murphy's mysteries. Although for a small town in Virginia, they have a lot of murders per capita. I also like that there is no profanity or explicit sexual content and that makes for a nice easy read. I have read the 1st 10 books and plan on enjoying the next 10. "

" (3.5 / 5) The only way the bodycount could get higher in Crozet is if Jessica Fletcher moved there. Another comfortable addition to the series, although one can assume Harry's new love interest won't stick around for long. "

" This book was what I can only describe as "precious." Perhaps it was the fantasy world of Virginia small town life as according to the author/goddess, but more likely it the idea of pets calling their owner "Mom." That made me want to yak profusely. Equally disturbing to me was that discovery that in this book animals talk. All the time. To each other. At the same level of intelligence as middle school girls who announce their cell phone conversations on public buses. I ignored all this mess in hopes of finding a mystery. Instead I ran into dating scenarios and catty encounters. What really happens is that this utopian society whirls on without a hitch while the newly introduced characters die in increasingly bizarre ways, disturbing the inhabitants but not preventing them from their picnics, farmin' and huntin'. Eventually it all solves itself (still ignoring the talking animals as a way to move plot forward) in a flamboyant explosion of ego and sabotage because kiddies, crime doesn't pay. "

" The mystery plot was not that grabbing but enjoyed the setting in Crozet, VA and the usual lineup of characters, including Mrs Murphy, Tee Tucker and Pewter. There is also something very true in how Harry comes to forgive the woman who had an affair with her ex-husband. "

It has human characters but also two cats, Mrs. Murphy and Pewter and a Corgi named Tucker. All in all, a fun read - I will be reading more Mrs. Murphy mysteries in the future. "
