Publisher Description

The New York Times bestseller from the author of Hallelujah Anyway, Bird by Bird, and Almost Everything Author Anne Lamott writes about the three simple prayers essential to coming through tough times, difficult days and the hardships of daily life. Listeners of all ages have followed and cherished Anne Lamott’s funny and perceptive writing about her own faith through decades of trial and error. And in her new audiobook, Help, Thanks, Wow, she has coalesced everything she knows about prayer to these fundamentals. It is these three prayers – asking for assistance from a higher power, appreciating what we have that is good, and feeling awe at the world around us – that can get us through the day and can show us the way forward. In Help, Thanks, Wow, Lamott recounts how she came to these insights, explains what they mean to her and how they have helped, and explores how others have embraced these same ideas. Insightful and honest as only Anne Lamott can be, Help, Thanks, Wow is the everyday faith audiobook that new Lamott listeners will love and longtime Lamott fans will treasure.

"I loved this book -- loved it, and found my own heart resonating with Lamott's musings. Lamott, a Christian, is decidedly unconventional in referring to God as either He/Him or She/Her; personally, as the Bible talks about the creation of people, male and female, in God's image, I'm okay with this. She is also unconventional in finding Divine inspiration across spiritual traditions while remaining committed to Jesus. I find Help Thanks Wow to be a work of maturity and wisdom as the author expresses the simplicity of what prayer is and communicates its most stripped-down, unadorned self. I cannot say that I agree with every aspect of the book, but Lamott's honesty, messiness, grit, wonder, and humor refresh my own perspective on prayer."

" I enjoyed this simple and joyful and clear-eyed book. The author doesn't tell me what to believe, she speaks movingly about the power of simple prayer in her life, and she illustrates a tension between humility and acceptance as opposed to frustration and snarkiness. "

" I simply needed this book...a friend lent it to me because she knew it would speak to the deeper places. It may be a short little book, but Anne's way with words finds a dimension that protects each word written. It is just enough to grapple with, find hope, and to realize the need for personal prayer - while somehow keeping it simple but raw. "

" Some of the writing in this book of beautiful. Of course it is. I was eager to grab it from the library because ever since I heard of the "help thanks wow" idea of prayer a few years ago, I've loved it, and done lots of thinking about the 'wow' part and how it's different than 'thanks'. But I had enough issues with her thoughts in the book to only give this a 2. The writing was beautiful, yes, but the book didn't add anything good to my life or give me new ways to think about something I've been pondering awhile. "

" it made me laugh, and tear up, at first you think it's a little spacey or new agey and then it just hits you and you get it...Help, Thanks, Wow, Amen... "

" This is my 2nd Anne Lamott book. I'm trying so hard to reconnect with the spiritual--and the way she writes connects with me. What didn't connect with me--and which Lamott had no control--was the price of this ebook. I purchased it for about $10--and it turns out to be 63 pages long. No excuse for a 63-page ebook to be more than $3. Again, it's not Lamott's fault--but pure publisher greed. "

" A fast read about realistic prayer. Anne Lamott is in need of prayer, and knows we are all in need of help. It's a loving, easy book, about the simple prayers of asking for help, giving thanks, and expressing awe. One of those books you will come back to again when you need it. "

" Although I don't agree with everything Lamott says, she is probably right that the three most important prayers we say are Help, Thanks, and Wow, or their variations. She likes to pray helphelphelphelphelphelp, thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou, and wowwowwowwowwowwow. "
