Publisher Description

Rich in suspense and brimming with adventure, the New York Times-bestselling Underland Chronicles unfold the fate of the Underland and the great warrior, Gregor. Suzanne Collins is also the author of the bestselling Hunger Games trilogy. Everyone has been trying to keep Gregor from seeing the final prophecy, The Prophecy of Time. It says something awful: It calls for the warrior’s death. The warrior being Gregor, of course. Now, an army of rats is quickly approaching and Gregor’s mom and little sister, Boots, are still in Regalia. The entire existence of the Underland is in Gregor’s hands and time is running out. There is a code that must be cracked, a new princess to contend with Gregor’s burgeoning dark side, and a war designed to end all wars. In this suspenseful final installment in the acclaimed Underland Chronicles, Suzanne Collins unfolds the fate of the Underland and the great warrior, Gregor the Overlander, in a manner that can only be described as masterful.

"Finally finished the series!! And it wasn't for lack of interest, I'll say that because this series is more than capable of dragging you into the story. I enjoyed this one. Not my favorite book of the series; the author changed a few things about what was going on and the reasons they were going on, but it's still a great read. I highly recommend it to all fans of young adult fantasy. I can't believe it's all over though!!! No more Underland??? How can this be?? I think I need to go bust a hole behind my dryer and force my way down there. :P"

Quotes

  • “A fitting end for an unflinchingly gutsy series whose deftly drawn characters have always lived dangerously.”

    — Kirkus Reviews
  • “A fitting conclusion to the series, a conclusion that, while not “happily ever after,” is realistic and poignant.”

    — Children’s Literature
  • “Fans of the series will find much to appreciate, from an enigmatic prophecy to the complex rat Ripred, and they’ll be drawn in by Collins's tight pacing and sense of urgency.”

    — School Library Journal

" I really liked this book. It didn't end as I expected, but I'm ok with that. The problem I had with it was the extreme violence, particularly since it's aimed at a young age group. I loved the whole series, but this was my least favorite, strictly because of the violence. "

About Suzanne Collins

Suzanne Collins first made her mark in children’s literature with the New York Times bestselling Underland Chronicles series for middle-grade readers. Her debut for slightly older readers, The Hunger Games, immediately became a New York Times bestseller, appealing to both teen readers and adults. It was called “addictive” by Stephen King in Entertainment Weekly and “amazing” by Stephenie Meyer on her website and was named a New York Times Notable Book of 2008 and a New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice. It is now a major motion picture as well. The other two books in the trilogy, Catching Fire and Mockingjay, also enjoyed enormous success. In April 2010, Collins was named to the Time 100 list of “the world’s most influential people.” Collins has also had a successful and prolific career writing for children’s television. She has worked on the staffs of several Nickelodeon shows, including the Emmy-nominated hit Clarissa Explains It All and The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo. She received a Writers Guild of America nomination in animation for cowriting the critically acclaimed Christmas special, Santa, Baby! She lives with her family in Connecticut.
