With his dying breath, he tells her he is a Green Rider, one of the magical messengers of the King. Before he dies, he makes Karigan swear to deliver the message he’s carrying, and gives her his green coat, with the symbolic brooch of his office. "I found this book at the library. It looked interesting and different from much of what I've read and it sure was. I liked the heroine. Her adventures were exciting and not predictable at all. There still remains much mystery and unanswered questions so I look forward to continuing with this series. I believe there are 4 books written so far, I am not sure how many will be in this series. I especially like the strong female roles in this book. The quality of this first book for Kristen just makes me even more excited to keep reading her work as I know she will get better and better as she continues to write. This book is just the beginning of a great writing career for Ms. Britain."

“Intriguing…The gifted Ms. Britain writes with ease and grace as she creates a mesmerizing fantasy and an appealing heroine quite free of normal clichés.”
— RT Book Reviews (4 stars)" This is just one weird book, and not good weird. I don't think I ever figured out what the fuss about, or even what the story was about. I'm certainly not going to read it again to remember, so this one will just have to rest in peace with the rest of the bad books. "
— K., 2/11/2014" Absolutely loved this book. The fantasy elements are awesome, and I like that the heroine is kick butt. "
— Rebekah, 2/4/2014" As young Karigan ponders her future, she comes across a Green Rider, one of the legendary messengers of the King. When she must deliver the important message, she embarks on a dangerous journey that changes her life forever. The first book in a series, this is a fantastic read that takes you on a thrilling adventure. "
— Kristi, 2/3/2014" I liked this book because I was looking for a new, refreshing fantasy. I loved the characters and setting and the believable motivations. Overall a very good read ;) "
— Elizabeth, 2/1/2014" This was a fun, fresh read. The story was not predictable, instead it was full of totally side-swiping plot turns. It was compelling, but I was able to put it down because it was like a series of short stories that the heroine had to maneuver. It's a story about a girl running away from school who stumbles upon a dying Green Rider. The king's messenger asks her to complete his delivery. When she grants his dying wish she is thrown into a world of magic, intrigue and evil. She is a realistic reluctant character that I easily relate to. "
— Kate, 1/28/2014" Great book if you are looking for something with a strong, young female character. "
— J, 1/20/2014" I couldn't get very far into it before I gave up. The story was interesting, but the manner of storytelling was making me kind of crazy. The author seemed to be insulting my intelligence almost every paragraph. I'd love to know what happens, but I want someone else to tell it. "
— 'becca, 1/15/2014" A real page turner. The action carries the story along at breakneck speed. Come to care for the characters. Stamina of Karigan is unbelievable, but suspend disbelief to learn what happens next. "
— Elaine, 1/8/2014" Sci Fi bookclub read for April. Couldn't finish this, it just didn't grip me to finish to the end, never mind read the rest of the series. "
— Lynne, 12/29/2013" Great story that I could not put down. Author develops her characters and stettings insanely well. "
— Madison, 11/16/2013" I really enjoyed this book. The lead character, Karigan, is everything I love in a strong female. I can't wait to read the rest of this series. "
— Heidi, 11/9/2013" A great fantasy novel! Lots of excitement and adventure! "
— Caroline, 10/23/2013" Great book with a good mix of fantasy and real life. Good adventure. "
— C'Anne, 9/1/2013" Excellent, clean read. Violent but it was necessary due to the nature of the book. Fantasy w/o a love story but it's a series so I think they were setting up a few things for the next book. "
— Trimble, 8/8/2013" This book was a fun fresh story for me. These are the kind of books I devour. I love heroic stories set in a time with out age. I wish I was a green rider. I definitely have to make a rider costume. "
— Dame, 5/9/2013" I really enjoyed this book, it was a great adventure! I never got bored or bogged down, the plot was exciting and kept moving at a really good pace. Karrigan was a strong character with plenty of "spunk" to see her through. "
— Brittany, 2/3/2013" I am having a hard time rating this one. I enjoyed it.it was a well thought out story line and high action, but I wasn't dying to pick it up. I will read the rest in the series. It just seemed a little superficial compared to the other fantasy I have been reading. "
— Tanja, 10/6/2012" Second time around it's still just as good. "
— Emily, 8/26/2012" I really enjoyed this book. I probably read it about 4 to 5 years ago , and immediately read every one her books that have come out since, now of course waiting for hopefully the last book to finish ther series. "
— Rebecca, 6/10/2012" Love her books, but she takes so long to write them! "
— Michelle, 2/23/2012Kristen Britain grew up in the Finger Lake region of New York State and published her first book, a cartoon collection called Horses and Horsepeople, at the age of thirteen. After graduating from Ithaca College with a degree in film production, travel beckoned and she began a career as a ranger with the National Park Service. This enabled her to work in a variety of natural and historical settings, from three hundred feet below the surface of the Earth to thirteen thousand feet above sea level on the Continental Divide; and from the textile mills of the American Industrial Revolution to the homes of Americans who changed the course of history. Currently she lives in an adobe house in the high desert of New Mexico among the hummingbirds and lizards.
