"A friend told me about this book at book club. She said it was funny. It does have moments of hilarity but for the most part it is twisted. The main character is really messed up in the head but has a great story to tell. I couldn't put it down till it was finished. I highly recommend it."

" That was scary and sexy! "
— Librarymary, 2/20/2014" By turns quite erotic and violent, this is a pretty entertaining story of a woman who searches out men seduces them (or allows herself to be seduced by them), and then murders them during sex. Both the sex and murders are pretty explicit, and the whole thing is pretty lively. Perhaps the psychological explanation for her behavior, the backstory, is laid on a bit heavy, but it still works. At midpoint, the book felt a little repetitive, but Block pulled it off and ran some switches in the story. It reminded me a bit of the old novel The Eye of the Beholder, which was more inventive in both the storytelling and plot. Don't read it if you have a weak stomach. "
— Steve, 2/10/2014" It is exactly what it claims to be. "
— Doc, 1/25/2014" This may not be the worst novel I've ever finished, but it's certainly the worst of the last three years. There's absolutely no narrative tension, and the putative protagonist just moves from incident to incident with only the barest of variations. She meets a man, sleeps with him, kills him--and that's pretty much the extent of the plot for about 300 pages. She's not particularly sympathetic, or interesting, or deep, and she doesn't grow or change over the course of the tedious narrative. The novel fails to be either sexy or exciting, despite its subtitle. Nothing more than a dull and cynical waste of time, Getting Off never even gets going. "
— Jack, 1/22/2014" Soft core porn. "
— Rodd, 1/8/2014" The title says it all. "
— David, 1/4/2014" This was one wild story! "
— Pamela, 12/22/2013" Awful, boring. Dialogue is shit. "
— Patrick, 11/20/2013" This is pure pornography. No redeaming value. I don't see why he wrote it. what's with the female pen name anyway? he always said they were crap. this is the first hard crime book i've read. not sure i'll read another. "
— Hrn1947, 11/16/2013" I wouldn't expect a novel about a serial killer to be a carefree romp, but damn if Block doesn't take this into some twisted places, while still somehow managing to make its antiheroine an oddly sympathetic character. "
— Ian, 11/15/2013" I read this because we had a complaint from a patron about the cover. It was entertaining...not a literary masterpiece but good mindless read. "
— Helen, 1/19/2013" as is often the case with "soft-porn" the story was the least of the author's worries.the material soon becomes very boring and anti-erotic. Skip this one. "
— Beverly, 12/30/2012" Starts well before going terribly awry. If you enjoy incest, rape, murder and gay sex, this may get you off. Not for me. 0 of 10 stars "
— Tim, 11/22/2012" Normally a big Block fan. But this just seemed like a reason for him a write a story with a whole bunch of killing and sex. Female serial killer trying to get back at her father after years of sexual abuse. "
— Dugger, 11/16/2012" Quite the lurid book!! Lawrence Block writing under one of his pseudonyms. Lurid but yet irresistible and hard to put down! "
— Glennie, 10/13/2012" It says it it a novel of sex and violence, and that is all it is. Lots of sex then violence, almost porn. Not a book I would recommend to anyone. NO STARS "
— Dean, 7/5/2012" At times difficult to read novel about a female sexual predator and serial killer. About the only negative thing I can say about the book is that, at times, it switches abruptly back and forth between multiple first person narrations, with out so much as a line break. "
— Jeff, 3/8/2012" I had no idea what to expect going into this, but was surprised at how entertaining it was. Genuinely laughed out loud at parts. "
— Brian, 11/21/2011" Strange. Block writes interesting books. Much different from his Scuddr books. "
— Al, 11/7/2011" Written in the '50s pulp-sleaze style of his youth. Better porn is much more widely available these days. Skilled craft in the service of a rather pointless novel unless you're hard (ha!) up for a cheap thrill. "
— Ray, 10/29/2011" Block does such a good job of getting into the head of a sociopath that it’s disturbing. The story was told very well, but the protagonist and premise was unsettling. "
— Kevin, 10/23/2011" Fuck. Stab. Shower.
Fuck. Stab. Shower.
Fuck. Stab. Shower.
Fuck. Poison. Shower.
Fuck. Stab. Shower.

Yawn.

"
— Randal, 10/18/2011" A very interesting tale about serial killer Kate Tolliver. Grizzly murder mixed with hot sex and dark humor will leave you wondering about your own morals, let alone Kate's. Gives new meaning to "safe sex." Noir lovers should read this book. "
