" This was the first Mike Lupica book that I've read. I can see why he's popular with young readers. His style is clear and straightforward. For those who love football, I'm sure they will really enjoy this book. As someone who doesn't like football, I was getting a bit bored with all that football talk. But, that said, I did like this book. Again, it's great to have another writer offering sports fiction for kids. "

" Great book for kids! MIke Lupica is a great kid writer! HIgh action, well written and good for a slightly younger group than Mike Lupica's feel kid novels like Travel Team and more substance than the Comeback Kids series. "

" Read this with my 10-year old son. He loved it. It's written in a very colloquial manner, and there are a lot of descriptions of football games. So of course, it's great for kids more obsessed with sports than reading. My main problem with it was that the main character was pretty unbelievable. I would have liked to see a little more fullness to the character. I think it was great that he always did the right thing, but I think some kids would have trouble relating. It would have been more interesting if he had struggled a little more, the way most kids do in real life. "

" Didn't know when I started this one that it was the first in a series but I'm glad to know that. Sports minded readers will enjoy the characters, the descriptive action, and conflict. My only complaint was that 11 year old Ben seemed wise beyond his years. Some of his actions/dialogue didn't ring true to me. "

" This book is about a little league football team. It's about being a team player and supporting each other. It was really a good story. I will definitely be reading more of the series. It would be a great book series for a boy. (Girl, too, but there are lots of girly books). ;) "
