Now in paperback with a bonus new chapter, the New York Times bestseller by Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly—an incredibly inspiring story of adventure, service, love, and overcoming tragedy.
Gabrielle Giffords and Mark Kelly’s story is a reminder of the power of true grit, the patience needed to navigate unimaginable obstacles, and the transcendence of love. Their arrival in the world spotlight came under the worst of circumstances. On January 8, 2011, while meeting with her constituents in Tucson, Arizona, Gabby was the victim of an assassination attempt that left six people dead and thirteen wounded. Gabby was shot in the head; doctors called her survival “miraculous.”
As the nation grieved and sought to understand the attack, Gabby remained in private, focused on her againstall- odds recovery. Intimate, inspiring, and unforgettably moving, Gabby provides an unflinching look at the overwhelming challenges of brain injury, the painstaking process of learning to communicate again, and the responsibilities that fall to a loving spouse who wants the best possible treatment for his wife. Told in Mark’s voice and from Gabby’s heart, the book also chronicles the lives that brought these two extraordinary people together—their humor, their ambitions, their sense of duty, their longdistance marriage, and their desire for family.
A new, moving final chapter brings Gabby’s story up to date, including the state of her health and her announcement that she would leave the House of Representatives.

"I enjoyed Mark Kelly's book and his narration of the book. In "Gabby," Mark chronicles their life together describing them as somewhat of a "power couple." Giffords was an up and coming member of Congress representing Ariozna who was nearly assassinated in a mass shooting that left six others dead. Mark Kelly, her husband was a NASA astronaut. This book is half a chronicle of Gifford's difficulties in suffering and remarkable recovery of a traumatic brain injury and half Mark Kelly's experience in space and as a proponent of the direction of the space program. As someone interested in the space program, I throughly enjoyed his interesting prospective as an astronaut alongside his twin brother, Scott. I was also in awe reading of Gabrielle Giffords' remarkable survival from the horrific shooting at the hands of a mad man. This was a great read. "

— Kirkus Reviews" Inspiring and interesting....I learned not about brain injury and about this woman's courage in facing it. But also about what a real marriage could mean. "
— Marsha, 2/10/2014" This books should be mandatory reading for anyone that needs a reminder of the strength of the human spirit and the power of love. Mark masterfully recounts Gabby's story of perseverance with emotion and conviction all the while leaving out the politics and rhetoric that would only serve to bring the book down. If you have not read it...read it! "
— Don, 1/22/2014" The amazing story of Gabby Giffords and her recovery after the tragic shooting in Tucson. I highly recommend this book. I did, however, take off one star because I skimmed over some of the parts that described life at NASA which I felt took away from the story. "
— Marisa, 1/18/2014" Intriguing, engaging and inspiring, this same-year tell-all from Congresswoman Gifford's husband Mark Kelly is an, at times, painful but ultimately uplifting look Gifford's shooting, recovery and therapy. Personal and straight-forward, although repetitive at times; a great, quick read. "

— Eileen, 12/10/2013" This book is mostly written by her husband, Mark Kelly, a former astronaut,. Though it focuses on the incident which occurred in January of 2011, where she was shot by an unstable constiuent, he does tell of her years growing up in Tucson and her devotion to public service "
— Andy, 12/10/2013" Without doubt the most heart wrenching book I have ever read. But the close of the book - reading Gabby's own words of "I will return" - left me inspired. This book will take you on a journey of many emotions. God speed, Gabby. "
