"I enjoyed this book, especially since I didn't figure out the twist and that is uncommon. It's funny that although I was really engaged and interested, this wasn't a quick read. Going to put a hold on the next one in the series now. I'd love some more back story on Alex and Mike."

“This heroine’s greatest appeal lies in the warmth of her friendships, the humanness of her mistakes and her unswerving devotion to protecting the next female from harm.”
— Publishers Weekly“This thriller, which will keep readers asking questions and turning pages, has the potential to be one of the summer’s big hits.”
— Library Journal" Absolutely awful!! "
— Leslie, 2/18/2014" I love Linda Fairstein. Mysteries with history of New York included. "
— Regina, 2/17/2014" Since Lethal Legacy was so interesting, I decided to go back to the beginning and try the first book in the series. I can definitely say that she has improved over the years. The thing that bugged me about this book was that it was a little too much about the characters personal life and not enough about a mystery. That's what I enjoyed about the previous book. Hopefully, she'll get better in latter books. "
— Macjest, 1/28/2014" Crackling good Alex Cooper romp. Keeps the reader guessing until the end. "
— Marca, 1/21/2014" eh. Mystery novel. D.A. working/living in New York... I forget the plot and I just read it... the butler did it (not really). "
— Sara, 12/29/2013" This was a good book and the success of the Alex Cooper series owes a lot to the success of this initial one. Good story because Fairstein writes what she knows. "
— Charlie, 12/25/2013" Very good series of police/legal mysteries. "
— Cvneeley, 12/24/2013" First in Alexandra Cooper series. Cooper is a assistant district attorney in NYC and works specifically with their sex crimes division. (Think Law and Order SVU). The main murder plot was that an actress/friend of her is killed at while staying at Cooper's vacation home on Martha's Vineyard. This book sets up a lot of what I will assume will be returning characters. Lots of side info on detective work and prosecution of sex crimes that wasn't related to the main plot. Also some of the clues were easy to spot to figure out who the killer was. Decent read and will try another in the series. Some adult language and situations but not graphic. "
— Kaye, 12/23/2013" Excellent mystery in the Prosecutor Alexandra Cooper series. Another of the "can't put it down" variety. "
— Nedra, 12/22/2013" A bit predictable, but enjoyable just the same. "
— Jaime, 11/21/2013" Exiting, great mystery. Looking forward to getting into this series. "
— Heather, 9/10/2013" Good insight into the District Attorney's Office. Not much of a great suspense writer, but thought it was a good crime read. I got into her writing style about 1/3 of the way in, and really enjoyed the book. "
— Debby, 9/6/2013" Much like Law and Order SVU, of course some good background on sex crimes. Would like to read a few more novels from Linda Fairstein "
— Mela, 8/12/2013" Linda Fairstein headed up the sex crimes unit of the NY district attorney's office for over 20 years. This is her first novel in a series and I have enjoyed every one of them. Her insight into the justice system truly helps bring her stories to life. "
— Luann, 3/11/2013" Excellent! Had the opportunity to meet her in bookstore on Martha's Vineyard- very interesting woman. "
— Kathy, 10/20/2012" A good read but, predictable "
— Barbara, 10/11/2012" Her first three books were great. "
— Bill, 8/6/2012" A good debut novel. I have read her latter Alexandra Cooper mysteries and can see the character development since this first book. "
— Patricia, 7/12/2012" Linda Fairstein novels are cool. She is one of the real life people that Law & Order SVU is based on as a real prosecuter in the Sex Crimes Division in New York! "
— Charmaine, 5/30/2012" When looking for novels set in New York City (preparing for our trip there), I discovered this writer--a former sex crimes prosecutor who writes books about the sex crimes unit in NYC. This is the precursor to "Law & Order: SVU" and her first novel. I will read more. "
— Marie, 5/16/2012" The banter & humor were the only things I liked. The narrative was boring & tedious, the plot predictable and there were a lot of detours that distracted from the story's flow. It's the author's first book so I suppose that is to be expected. "
— Milla, 3/3/2012" Good enough to want to keep reading the next in the series... "
— Sandy, 2/23/2012" Easy read....a bit too much on criminal investigation detail. Entertaining, but figured out the plot pretty early on in the book. "
— Leanna, 7/24/2011" First time reading Linda Fairstein. I enjoyed the characters and the story "
— Deb, 5/21/2011" A good debut novel. I have read her latter Alexandra Cooper mysteries and can see the character development since this first book. "
— Patricia, 5/1/2011" Overall this was enjoyable, although there were many clues that hit readers on the head like anvils while the protagonist remained inexplicably oblivious. "
— Petula, 4/7/2011" First book written/published by Ms. Fairstein. I like her style so far. "
— Deb, 3/26/2011" The first Linda Fairstein book and I'm hooked! Can't wait to read the next. Great writing...on the edge of your seat suspense. "
— Teresa, 3/7/2011" First in the series - read for little or nothing on my Kindle. Similar to reading "Law and Order" -- liked it -- will try others in the series. "
— Sandra, 1/15/2011" Really glad I was able to pick this up and read it. Think Law and Order Special Victims, except more realistic and more personal. Smart, sassy, quick, with a little mystery, a little personal, a little legal, and a lot of insight. Loved it! "
— Darren, 11/28/2010" This is the first book in the Alexandra Cooper series. I'm finally reading it now that I've read about 5 other books in the series! "
— Becky, 11/24/2010" wow another good suspense/mystery/whodunit featuring Assistant DA Alex Cooper. She was great! Can't wait to read more! "
— Denise, 11/21/2010" I didn't mind the Linda Fairstein story. It was basically ok, as far as I remember. I think at times it tried to hard. "
— Bill, 10/28/2010" Good insight into the District Attorney's Office. Not much of a great suspense writer, but thought it was a good crime read. I got into her writing style about 1/3 of the way in, and really enjoyed the book. "
— Debby, 10/24/2010" I liked this book and the protagonist, Alexandra Cooper.

I was more than half way through and still had no clue of the guilty party. "
— Dee, 10/13/2010" Excellent mystery in the Prosecutor Alexandra Cooper series. Another of the "can't put it down" variety. "
— Nedra, 8/25/2010" Sounds like a good mystery series, and since this is the first one and was written in 1996, I have many more to look forward to. "
