Acclaimed debut author Jeff Kinney brilliantly re-creates the typical humor and logic of middle school boys sidling into adolescence.
Sixth-grader Greg Heffley doesn’t understand his annoying younger brother, obnoxious older one, or well-meaning parents. But he knows enough to record his daily thoughts in a manly journal—not some girly diary. In a unique novel brimming with laugh-out-loud moments, Greg chronicles his first turbulent year of middle school.

"I chose this book because I read the second one and I was really interested in reading the first. The plot of this story is that Greg Heffley, the main character has to go through middle school with his friend Rowley and they have very interesting events happen to them. My favorite quote if the story is, "I guess this has been a learning experience for both of us!", on page 184, because he actually was trying to get Rowley to not say to Mr. Winkey, the head person in the safety patrol, that he actually chased the kinder-gardeners with worms. The interesting part of this story is that almost every part of the story made me laugh because of the way Greg was acting. I think the authors writing style was also a major part of why it was very hilarious at most times. I would recommend this book to everyone because it really makes reading go by much faster."

“[This] should keep readers in stitches.”
— Publishers Weekly (starred review)" Diary of a wimpy kid is #1 bestseller "
— Dhvani, 7/30/2015" Read books 1 - 6 because Miles loves them. As an adult, I say that Greg is not very nice. As a kid, I see the humor. As a parent, I really hope my kid is learning what not to do. "
— Julie, 2/20/2014" Diary of a Wimpy kid was not the best book especially if you're in high grades. it is made for people in elementary school. the themes are friendship, family and school. for example it includes friendship because gregs best friend rowley got in trouble for gregs doings, he blames his best friend so he doesn't get in trouble, i'd say thats not a really good friend. it involves family because he has an older brother rodrick and he bullies greg and his momm and dad are sort of crazy. lastly it includes school because he isn't the best at getting good grades and he is somewhat bullied there too. "
— Jake, 2/20/2014" Very entertaining, and I did laugh out loud a couple times, but I was pretty well horrified by what a jerk Greg could be at times. I know he's a middle school kid, and I was probably a jerk when I was in middle school, but I guess I was hoping for some character development or a gain of self-awareness by the end of the book. "
— Heather, 2/20/2014" A surprisingly good book. Loved the quirky narration - so simple and thoroughly enjoyable. I am so looking forward to reading the other books in the series. "
— Shirley, 2/16/2014" This book( although the content is very easy) is classic. I read this whole series in short time, still got a laugh, and got some hours for book reads. This book is where this hilarious series takes off. It tell's of problems of your average middle school kid. But that best part is, that I can connect with it. Because a lot of the events that occur, also occur at Edgewood. In this book, it talks about Greg's social problems, and him trying to climb to fame and popularity. I would recommend it if your looking for a short, funny read! "
— Zach, 2/6/2014" It was a good read. It shows the life of a boy at school with annoying brothers. It is hilarious and have now advanced to number 4 of these books they are one of my favourite kids books. "
— Anne, 2/5/2014" I remember when I worked at a daycare and one of my kids showed me this book, and then I read half if it during her recess. Now I've gotten around to reading the other half. "
— Miss, 2/3/2014" i dont really like this book. i like books with lessons and advice stories in them. and this book doesnt have that. so i dont really care, for it. Plus they shouldnt just talk about him getting the girl they should talk about other things. "
— Savannaho6, 1/26/2014" It is the first of all the diary of a wimpy kid books but in my mind not the best maybye just because it s the first time you meet all of the characters? "
— Nuclearwaffle, 1/20/2014" I am totally hooked on these children's books. So funny! "
