When David Zetrakis, the producer of a popular soap opera, is found shot to death, Wollie Shelley finds herself caught up in the murder. Zetrakis was one of the many Mr. Wrongs in Wollie's career as a serial dater, and her friend Joey has emerged as the media's prime suspect. A hot-tempered celebrity who had dated Zetrakis and was fired from his show some years ago, Joey has inherited a million-dollar Klimt from him. But Joey is not the only potential suspect. Zetrakis left lots of nice bequests to the cast and crew of the show. And as the dating correspondent on a talk show called SoapDirt, Wollie, who's required to dine and dish with the stars, quickly discovers that the behind-the-scenes intrigues of television soaps are as highly charged as the on-screen shenanigans.

"I had sort of low expectations for this book (the first one I read) but it was great! Snappy dialog, funny, and still a good mystery to be solved - and the ending wasn't pat. Look forward to reading more from her. "

“Dead Ex is a charming book with a well-done mystery and one of the most likeable heroines in the genre.”
— Chicago Sun-Times“A Greek mythology twist and crackling insider insight into the fascinating soap opera world enhance this clever whodunit.”
— Publishers Weekly (starred review)“Fans of Jennifer Crusie’s heroines are sure to like witty, well-meaning Wollie, who plays like a less-cynical version of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum.”
— Booklist“For drama, wit and just plain fun, every life (and death) needs a little Wollie.”
— Kirkus Reviews" Oooo, she has to read The Iliad! Perhaps I can relate to this. "
— Marfita, 2/13/2014" Light-hearted mystery. "
— Shirley, 1/8/2014" I loved this author's first book, Dating Dead Men. This one was OK....listened to it on CD on my drive to work and back....better than all the election stuff on the radio. "
— Annette, 1/4/2014" this was your basic mystery..the ex gets murdered and the it looks like the friend did it...or did she??? a bit too wordy..i think the story could have been told in half the words. "
— lynn, 12/25/2013" This is my favorite book of the series so far. In the previous books, I have felt like there wasn't enough character development. Having the plot focus around Joey, helps to develop a real character for her. The ending was weird though - not expected, but it also didn't make the most sense to me. Again, this is the kind of book I read before bed because it doesn't suck me in so thoroughly that I end up reading all night instead of sleeping. On to the fourth book! "
— Katy, 12/24/2013" This was a very pleasant, diverting murder mystery for what turned out to be a very long week. Kozak has an insiders feel for the LA scene, soap dramas and a bit of the Illiad thrown in! I've driven through the Mount Olympus area of the hills and many of the homes are very Grecian indeed. "
— Julia, 12/21/2013" This is another in her Wolly Shelly series. Got kind of long, but a good story. "
— Rita, 12/14/2013" Not as much about the main character as the first 2. "
— Christa, 11/27/2013" Another great read by Harley Jane Kozak... can't wait for her to write another book in this series. "
— Nancy, 10/31/2013" This was a good mystery. It's been such a long time since I read the last Wollie Shelley mystery that I can't remember if this was better or worse than the last, but I didn't guess the murderer, so that's always a good sign. Good characterizations, interesting plot. It's worth picking up. "
— Sarah, 10/31/2013" Eclectic batch of characters. Not the best mystery I've ever read but I would read more from this series. "
— Sarah, 10/5/2013" Kozak's writing reminds me of Janet Evanovich. A light, entertaining read. "
— Laura, 10/5/2013" Wollie's back to her hijinks, although this one is a little sadder, I like this mystery series pretty well, mostly for the characters, no big surprises to me on this one. "
— Jennifer, 8/24/2013" This was a fairly entertaining listen. I almost gave it two stars, because I didn't care too much for the narration. "
— Mathilde, 8/21/2013" This book is a hoot! If you are a V.I. Warshawski fan, then this is the writer you've been waiting for. "
— Gail, 6/20/2013" Lite read, fun. The main character is 6' tall, so I liked it!LOL "
— Christie, 1/1/2013" I started reading this book and I could not put it down until I finished it. This series is just funny, and I like the characters alot in it. Will read more if there is more to read. "

— Lisa, 10/5/2012" This was a great 3rd book and I look forward to reading the next one when Kozak writes it. I am glad to see Simon is was in this book "
— *Babs*, 7/21/2012" Light, edgy, funny...I liked it! "
— Karen, 7/1/2012" I think this is the worst of the three books. Too much soap opera like and too little Simone. "
— Wing, 2/3/2012" I enjoyed this book although I think it was a little slow at times. I had the killer, but not the motive, figured out before the end. Lots of LA flavor in this book, especially the references to Wollie being in her car nearly all the time. "
— Susan, 3/23/2011" Wollie's back to her hijinks, although this one is a little sadder, I like this mystery series pretty well, mostly for the characters, no big surprises to me on this one. "
