Manolito De La Cruz knew he was dangerously close to turning into a vampire. The last thing he expected after being called back to his Carpathian homeland by Prince Mikhail was to catch the scent of his destined lifemate in MaryAnn Delaney. MaryAnn is human, but she knows all too well the overwhelmingly aggressive instincts of Carpathian males. And they’re not exactly the kind of men she’d prefer to be bound to for life.
A dedicated counselor for battered women, MaryAnn has a fulfilling life with no room for someone like Manolito, born and bred in the Carpathian Mountains, a law unto himself. But when MaryAnn agrees to go to South America to offer guidance to a brutalized young woman, she’s oblivious of the trap that awaits her in the sweltering thick of the jungle. She has been lured there by Manolito himself, who has seductive plans for the unaware, irresistibly human female.
Once there, she will be his. Once his, she will never be released. He is her lover, her predator, her lifemate. She is his dark possession….

"This is my favorite of the series. Probably because the main characters are different than I expected. A Black woman and a Latin man as main characters certainly surprised me. I loved the werewolf angle. I did ask her if she would re-visit the characters. It would be interesting to see how the Carpathian and Werewolf merger worked out. But she said that she has so many characters she would like to write about that once she has written about a couple they will never be the main focus of a book again. Too bad!"

" WOW!!! Christine Feehan and her dark series never ceases to surprise and amaze me!!! Excellent story and the ending was great. With each book they get better and better. I thought the conclusion of #16 Dark Demon was awesome, but than she turned around and topped it with Dark Possession!! "
— Jaime, 2/13/2014" I tried to read this, got maybe 20 pages read, gave it the benefit of doubt, read another chapter, and completely lost interest. "
— Angelica, 2/10/2014" Amazing book! best yet for her. "
— Lizzy, 2/3/2014" It was pretty good. The only thing that drove me nuts is Mary Ann's fear of life and everything else. I feel there should be more adjustmant throughout the book. It seemed like right near the end there was one scene where she became brave and was just magically transformed. Also the ending could've had a little more about her new life. "
— Natalie, 1/31/2014" I thought this book was fairly scattered and rushed. It had many different storylines intersecting with each other from previous books, or hinting at future books. I think I got more from it than someone who is not familiar with the series would have. I knew who all the people referenced were from reading the entire series. Someone starting here would be fairly lost. "
— Lisa, 1/30/2014" This story includes a very interesting, and unexpected, twist. "
— Lisa, 1/29/2014" Enjoyed this one too, definitely worth a read and the series has got so much better as it has gone on. I really loved the characters in this one; Manolito is such a sweetie, even though he starts off all 'hard arse' and bossy (like all these Carpathian males)! he turns into a big slush puppie!! It was good to have a new character introduced too, (werewolf) which put a different spin on things. "
— *, 1/18/2014" overbearing vampires and smut, great for a quick rainy-day read but not anything I would recommend. "
— Charlotte, 1/14/2014" Brilliant series, have a go at them! "
— Manda, 1/14/2014" Disappointing. Normally I can't put these books down but this one I HAD to put down every 50 to 100 pages. A little boring, slow to develop even though I knew exactly where the story was going. Maybe i'll reread it and love it. "
— Talia, 1/3/2014" Not my favorite in this series, but not a bad book. First 2/3 I didn't like much, but went really fast. The last 1/3 was great... and a great spin to the store. One thing I do really love about these books, is you get to hear about other characters from previous books and what is going on with them. "
— Andrea, 12/30/2013" Manolito De La Cruz and MaryAnn Delaney "
— Emma, 12/16/2013" I, who swore I would never like one of the De La Cruz brothers (if you're a reader of the series, you get it), loved it. "
— Vanessa, 12/14/2013" Enjoyable in the same way all Feehan's books are. "
— Cathy, 12/11/2013" Once again, Christine Feehan has lived up to her title of reigning queen of the paranormal romance. Dark Possession is yet another exciting adventure in the dark and sensual world of the Carpathians. I recommend this book for anyone who loves a great read! "
— Teresa, 8/4/2013" Yup - really enjoyed this book. There was more dimension to the book with additional characters who had a real role in the unfolding story. Hope they continue more along this line than those first few books. (Note: I read this out of order, as I am actually only up to Dark #6 (Darius/Tempest story). "
— Jane, 5/20/2013" I would have given this a slightly higher rating if the main characters actually did something else other than have sex. I acknowledge how important it is but come on, there's so much more to developing romantic relationships! "
— Jewel, 4/22/2013" I love the Carpathians (I wish they were real!) "
— Jane, 1/5/2013" I enjoyed learning about the lycans in this book. it gave the story a nice twist. The conflict was a little odd, or rather the conflict resolution was. All that happened was some mental anguish. It was weird. "
— Sarah, 10/21/2012" awsome series with suspense, love, violence, the ultimate story. love it. most favorite series "
— Tammy, 10/4/2012" well i really liked the storyline, but smut galore- had to skip more than 40 pages of straight porn, too bad she is a good writer "
— Mandy, 4/14/2012" My least favorite book of the series. Completely confusing. The hero is a great guy, but he spends so little time with the heroine that it leaves your head reeling. But very exciting and suspenseful. More Urban Fantasy I suppose... "
— Julia, 1/16/2012" I really loved this book. A nice introduction to the Lycans that were believe to be extinct. Manolito journey to getting his spirit rejoined with his body was fascinating. I liked how I finally go to meet Vlad and Sarantha. Here's to more Carpathian/Lycans! "
— Dani, 1/6/2012" Narrated by Phil Gigante and Jane Brown - Narration 5*s "
— Brenda, 12/11/2011" I would have given this a slightly higher rating if the main characters actually did something else other than have sex. I acknowledge how important it is but come on, there's so much more to developing romantic relationships! "
— Jewel, 4/25/2011" Wow! more of the same please - Cool ;O) "
— Patrick, 4/14/2011" So totally loved this book!!!Go werewolves,I've just been waiting for her to slip them in some where... "
— Gemz, 3/5/2011" Meh. I love vampire novels but this theme is getting really played out. It does have some really raunchy sex scenes. One thing I may try sometime. "
— Michelle, 3/4/2011" well i really liked the storyline, but smut galore- had to skip more than 40 pages of straight porn, too bad she is a good writer "
— Mandy, 2/25/2011" awsome series with suspense, love, violence, the ultimate story. love it. most favorite series "
— Tammy, 2/20/2011" It was a great book! Had me trying to figure out what Maryann was threw the whole thing up until it revealed it the ending fight scene was great as well as the bonus deleted scenes. "
— Jessica, 1/13/2011" The story in this particular installment wasn’t quite as compelling as some have been. I did like the werewolf/Carpathian thing, though. "
— MRS, 1/6/2011" Ms. Feehan really ramps up the sexual energy in this book. The electricity between the characters nearly jumps off the pages. Brava! "
— Wendy, 12/31/2010" One of the De la Cruise Brothers....Manalito and Maryanne. Loved it!! "
