Four men, one calling: to serve and protect. As law enforcement officers, Adam Mitchell, Nathan Hayes, and their partners willingly stand up to the worst the world can offer. Yet at the end of the day, they face a challenge that none of them are truly prepared to tackle: fatherhood. While they consistently give their best on the job, good enough seems to be all they can muster as dads. But they’re quickly discovering that their standard is missing the mark. They know that God desires to turn the hearts of fathers to their children, but their children are beginning to drift farther and farther away from them. Will they be able to find a way to serve and protect those who are most dear to them? When tragedy hits home, these men are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, their faith, and their fathering. Can a newfound urgency help these dads draw closer to God . . . and to their children? Bestselling author Randy Alcorn brings the heart-pounding drama of the screenplay by Alex and Stephen Kendrick to this inspiring novel that also includes subplots, characters, and backstory not seen in the movie.

"The movie was fantastic, but the book had a lot more to offer. New characters and new situations that are going on around the action in the film really paint a more thorough look at the world in which they exist. This was a very entertaining book that I read in only two days - - a rare thing for me."

" Wonderful book! I felt as if it was written for me, as a new father. The story and characters are very real and make the Scriptural themes very relatable. Can't wait for the movie! "
— Sam, 2/18/2014" A nice read but it seemed a little too good to be true. Not really my cup of tea. "
— Duckie, 1/31/2014" This story could have been really good however I felt like it was 300+ pages of a sermon. Too much religion in this novel. I struggled through the entire thing "
— Terri, 1/29/2014" What an amazing book about how important dads are in our lives and how important it is to be committed to being a good example as a father and leading your family in living Godly lives. Everyone should read this!!! We all must be courageous and follow God! "

— Deon, 1/16/2014" awful. bad soap opera style writing. blatant Christianity agenda. "
— Kim, 1/15/2014" A rousing treatise on what husbandhood and fatherhood means and encompasses. It asks the question, "What do I want for my family and how do I achieve it?" It puts into perspective various life choices and provides possible outcomes in fictional lives. "
— Angela, 1/8/2014" Absolutely the best book I have read in a while. If only more parents would do this. "
— Phyllis, 11/28/2013" I thought the message of this story was a 5 star, but the story lacked. Still a good book. Makes me so grateful for Eric. "

— Beckie, 9/7/2012" I haven't seen the movie yet, but this novelization was pretty good. Felt a little like a screenplay at times but the story is powerful and shines through. "
— Jack, 8/15/2012" (nook) "
— Ellie, 3/8/2012" Another great book, one that should be on every parents not just a fathers reading list. In today's world sadly both parents can become so involved in what's going on outside the home, they are missing what really needs to be seen. "
