Writer Sabrina Stone had married wealthily and unwisely. Her husband's refusal to love their handicapped son added more strain to an already failing relationship. Yet Sabrina feels a commitment to her marriage - one that she has vowed to honor. Then one day, she encounters an investigative reporter named Derek McGill who is writing a story on parents of special children. They speak for only a few minutes, but it is long enough for the two of them to feel a desire that stuns them . . . a desire they both assume must remain unfulfilled. Eighteen months later, Sabrina's husband is divorcing her and Derek McGill is in prison for murder. Following an impulse, Sabrina travels to Derek's prison to tell him that she believes in his innocence. What started as an act of compassion will turn into a dangerous and passionate test of her courage as she tries to uncover who is responsible for Derek's conviction. And she will discover the meaning of one of the most important commitments of all - the one a woman makes to herself. The one that will determine the course of her life . . . and the fate of the dreams she has for her child.

" innocent ex-con - one of my favorite book types "
" 3.5 stars. Liked it. Liked Sabrina & Derek. The Nicky part was sad. Some mystery, some love story "
" Loved this book. What a shame she went into chick lit. Haven't read her stuff in awhile, but this book was awesome. "
" Caught up in revenge the main character in this book almost missed how blessed he was showing the futility of revenge. Be prepared for many "x rated" portions. "
" Quite a good read, romance, mystery and intrigue all rolled into one. "
" This was a hard book to get into and not very believable at all. "
" I wasn't too found of this book. At times it felt like it dragged on while the plot was going no where. Really didn't care too much for the ending as well. "
" I've read a bunch of excellent books lately and this one was just blah. "
" Such a disappointment. Lead woman has a handicapped child. Author compares struggle to raising the child to burden & a prison sentence. Pushes institutionalization. No correlation from child's point of view. "
" I can't remember what year we read this for book club, sorry. I related to the story of a special needs child, but I couldn't relate to anything else in this book, especially his weird family of writers. "
" This book was dull and depressing. I did not like the characters, the storyline, etc... "
" great book by a great author "
" This is a rather involved book revolving around several different commitments. It is interesting but not a must read. It is rather linear...and early relationships drop out as the main character proceeds. "
