FBI agent Quentin Hayes always knew he had an unusual talent, even before he was recruited by Noah Bishop for the controversial Special Crimes Unit. But, as gifted as he is, for 20 years he's been haunted by a heartbreaking unsolved murder that took place at The Lodge, a secluded Victorian-era resort in Tennessee. Now he's returned one final time, determined to put the mystery to rest.

Diana Brisco has come there hoping to unlock the mystery of her troubled past. Instead, she is assailed by nightmares and the vision of a child who vanished from The Lodge years ago. And an FBI agent is trying to convince her that she isn't crazy but that she has a rare gift, a gift that could catch a killer.

Quentin knows that this is his last chance to solve a case that has become a dangerous obsession. But can he persuade Diana to help him, knowing what it could cost her? For something cold and dark and pure evil is stalking the grounds of The Lodge. Something Diana may not survive. Something Quentin never felt before: the chill of fear. " There's something about a main character who's a FBI agent that peaks my interest. Add the element of psychic ability (even just a hint) and you have a book worth reading. The characters having to reflect on incidents from their past gives this suspense thriller a feeling of nostalgia. It was worth the read; Kay Hooper's books haven't let me down yet. "

" This is the second book in this series and definitely more paranormal that Hunting Fear. It was good. Scary in quite a few spots and kept me in suspense until the very end. WOW. a great book. I give 5 stars and I really enjoyed it. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Barbara Meyers | 2/10/2014

" I liked this but the pacing seemed a bit slow. Maybe because one of the main characters was just learning she was psychic and how to use her powers. "

" If you're looking for brilliant literature, well developed characters, and interesting dialogue.....keep looking. Thank goodness that's not what I was searching for when I picked it up. It 'tis the season of all things spooky and I wanted an uncomplicated book to listen to that had a ghostly feel to it. This one starred a medium and was set in an incredibly old lodge in Tennessee that caters to the wealthy and elite. "

    " [audiobook:]
There were some aspects of this book that never made sense for me - the child abduction thing? The stable guy who seemed to know what was going on while no one else did?
Did I listen to a really badly abridged edition?
    "
