Publisher Description

Harry Haristeen, Mrs. Murphy, Pewter, and Tee Tucker return for this cozy from the New York Times best-selling tandem of Rita Mae and Sneaky Pie Brown. When Harry's beloved Aunt Tally approaches her 100th birthday, her alma mater schedules a birthday celebration that doubles as a fundraiser. But then a member of the alumnae association disappears. Her car is on campus, yet she's nowhere to be seen-and Tucker has sniffed out traces of human blood.

"As always Rita Mae Brown writes with heart. The Mrs. Murphy series is a favorite of mine and I love that the main characters grow as the series goes on. I love Harry and Fair, the animals like tucker, pewter, and of course Mrs. Murphy are a delight."

" Oh Rita, I hate to say this but I think your cat mysteries have finally jumped the shark. This was one was so bogged down in diatribes against taxes and government and technology and drugs I nearly lost the story. The mystery takes a back seat, as do Harry and her animals. I might try your new dog mysteries and hope that they have a real story to follow. "

" I made it to page 40 but I just couldn't take all the digs at politics. I miss the carefree and funny plots of her earlier books. Even the animals are underused in this book. This one just doesn't live up to her previous books so I'm sending it back to the library early. Maybe someone else will enjoy it more. "

" This book was horrid. Don't waste your time. How is this author being published? Maybe she's 100 and has a ghost writer writing her books. No cat is writing it. Cats are intelligent. "

" I usually enjoy Rita Mae Brown's cozy mysteries, but not this one. The mystery plot is fine, but the author keeps going off on Tea Party-esque rants. I prefer my mysteries without political diatribes and rants on the horrors of modern society. "

" Not the strongest story in the series. Part of the book is set in Missouri, but the charm of these books is the setting in Crozet Virginia and the usual cast of characters, including the two cats and dog. They didn't play much of a role this time around. "

" This book was less effective than other Mrs. Murphy mysteries, as the human half of the writing duo brought too much politics into the book than seemed necessary. "

" Haven't read one of these in a while and will pass on them again. There's not much new in them and I don't really know how many of your neighbors you can kill off in a series and you solve them without the police getting suspicious..... no longer a cozy fan. "

" These books used to be so much fun. What happened? The writing is very choppy and frustrating. The story does not hold my interest. Is this a contractual obligation? Has Ms. Brown simply run out of ideas? This is a series that has gone far beyond what should have been its end. "
