A young woman probing into the mysterious circumstances of her husband's death receives a message from a medium claiming to be his channel in Mary Higgins Clark's #1 bestselling thriller, Before I Say Goodbye.
When Nell MacDermott learns that her husband, architect Adam Cauliff, and three of his business associates have died in an explosion of his new cabin cruiser, she is not only devastated but wracked with guilt. The last time she saw Adam, they had a bitter quarrel over her plan to run for the congressional seat long held by her grandfather; she had told him not to come home.
As the investigation into the boat's explosion proceeds, Nell learns that it was not an accident but a bomb. Despite her skepticism, Nell is swayed by her great-aunt Gert, a believer in psychic powers, to see a medium claiming to be Adam's channel.
While trying to unravel the threads of Adam's past and his violent end, Nell consults the medium, who transmits messages to her with instructions from Adam. The story reaches a powerful climax in Nell's final encounter with the medium, in which she learns the truth about the explosion—truth she can't be allowed to live and tell.

“Mary Higgins Clark knows what she’s doing…This savvy author comes up with something unexpected…A hold-your-breath ending.”
— New York Times Book Review“For someone who loves plot, Mary Higgins Clark’s Before I Say Goodbye should be like manna from heaven…America’s ‘Queen of Suspense’ clearly knows what her readers want. Here she provides it, in spades.”
— Los Angeles Times“Clark has always been a master plotter, and her shrewd use of clever red herrings makes Before I Say Good-bye a treat for mystery fans. The characters are complex enough to be intriguing, imperfect enough to seem real, and enmeshed in a story that bundles up several deadly sins—avarice, envy, pride, and wrath. The twists and turns will keep readers enthralled and guessing right up until the end…Clark at her chilling and charming best.”
— Barnes & Noble, editorial review“Clark, in her latest thriller, is back at her page-turning best…As always, the elements of Clark’s plot masterfully converge to reveal the killer. A fast-paced, fun ride that leaves the reader guessing until the end.”
— Booklist" I enjoy MHC novels because they are very easy reads. This one is no exception. "
— Rebecca, 2/15/2014" Seemed like the story went on slowly, then all of a sudden the last 20 pages had a lot of drama and answered questions. A couple of things were never answered. It's almost like MHC was writing, realized how close she was getting to 400 pgs, and hurried things along. The story itself was good though. "
— Amanda, 2/12/2014" A very quick read that I liked well enough to be entertained. "
— Ida, 2/10/2014" This book is mediocre. She did keep the suspense going until the end but the language was not that exciting and the characters did not have a lot of depth. It kind of reminded me of a Scooby Doo mystery. But it was fine for a quick read. I would not really seek this author out in the future. "
— India, 2/7/2014" I think this was supposed to be a thriller. Not in the least bit thrilling, though. Slow moving, predictable and boring, with two dimensional characters. Despite the main protagonist being female, the women were unintelligent, gullible and naive. Almost all wrapped their lives around men. I can't believe I finished it. The most annoying thing was that when the characters were thinking or feeling anything it was said in the first person. For example, a woman alone in her apartment might think (not say aloud) "Whenever I miss my husband, I like to wear his jacket because it makes me think of him." People don't think those things in words, they just feel them. "
— Kelly, 2/6/2014" I enjoyed this book but it was pretty predictable. "
— Laurie, 1/10/2014" She is a great mystery writer. If you enjoy one of her books then you will enjoy them all! "
— Kristen, 12/22/2013" One of my more favorite Mary Higgins Clark mysteries. Her mysteries generally follow the same formula and I can usually figure things out before the book winds up, but this one threw me for a loop! The twists were most enjoyable! "
— Val, 11/23/2013" This was a great mystery...a little predictable but still a good, easy read. "
— Christina, 11/20/2013" Very depressing, all about death.... "
— Urmika, 11/12/2013" My First Mary Higgins Clark was good "
— Barb, 11/4/2013" Good but way too long, it could have easily been cut by 100 pages. The ending very predictable. "
— Eriana, 10/29/2013" A woman is married to an architect. He goes to a meeting and his boat explodes. Very good. Mary Higgins Clark is a very easy read. I did like her. "
— Vikki, 9/26/2013" Ok. I haven't read Mary Higgins Clark in years. "
— Marla, 9/17/2013" A; My first audio book and I LOVED it! Format is great and story is captivating. Much safer than actually reading a book while driving. "
— Cathy, 5/21/2013" I was at the library and thought that I had missed reading this one. About 3/4 through, I realized I had. Oh well. "
— Sarah, 4/28/2013" Just OK. Not the same caliber as some of her older stuff like "Where are the Children". "
— Eomicheli, 3/31/2013" coming from Mary Higgins Ck\lark this was disappointing and not as thrilling as most of her books. "
— Holly, 3/28/2013" I just started reading this book.... it's definitely a page turner. "
— Debbie, 1/14/2013" Not one of her best. Too many characters and that made it confusing. I have the hardcover edition. "
— Kim, 9/28/2012" Mary Higgins Clark is great at the wife investigating the husband's death stories. Great read. "
— Jim, 9/19/2012" not really one of her better books. slow read. "
— Stephanie, 3/11/2012" All about "who done it". Lots of twists and turns to find the killer. "
— melody, 10/7/2011" What a wonderful read. It has more twists and turns than the country road I live off of! It was a quick read as well!! "
— Tanya, 10/7/2011" Oh my gosh, it took me FOREVER to get through this thing! I just could not get into it. It wasn't terrible, but definitely was not a page turner...which is kind of the point of a mystery, right?? "
