About Edward O. Thorp

Edward O. Thorp is the author of the bestseller Beat the Dealer, which transformed the game of blackjack. His subsequent book, Beat the Market, co-authored with Sheen T. Kassouf, influenced securities markets around the globe. Thorp is one of the world’s best blackjack players and investors, and his hedge funds were profitable every year for twenty-nine years. His hedge funds and his personal portfolio have been profitable in forty-two of the subsequent forty-three years. Based on his work, he and Jay Regan launched the first market neutral hedge fund in 1969. Dr. Thorp, with Claude Shannon, also invented the first wearable computer in 1961 to win at roulette. He has also written Elementary Probability, The Mathematics of Gambling, and numerous mathematical papers on probability, game theory, and functional analysis.
