"I'm on the fence whether or not I should give this Miss Marple Mystery a 3 1/5 or a 4, so I gave it a four for good measure. I forgot how much I enjoyed Agatha Christie, but this one was developed a bit late, but the stage and the feel of Bertram's was set during the first half of the book. I can't want to read more of Agatha Christie books they really are charming and always fun!"
— Carly (4 out of 5 stars)
“A joy to read from beginning to end, especially in its acute sensitivity to the contrasts between this era and that of Miss Marple’s youth.”
— New York Times“Miss Christie’s pearly talent for dealing with all the words and pomps that go with murder English-style shimmers steadily in this tale of the noisy woe that shatters the extremely expensive peace of Bertram’s famously old-fashioned hotel.”
— New Yorker" There is a grand crime syndicate that needs to be caught. Will Miss Marple all of sudden volunteer any information she knows? "
— Gwen, 2/19/2014" My least favorite for agatha so far..I enjoy miss Marple's mysteries but this one wasn't that good.. "
— Chocolaa, 2/6/2014" I read all her books as a teenager and have watched all the productions of her work by BBC, etc, and still love her--Miss Marple, crafty as she is innocent looking, is a fave. "
— Catherine, 2/5/2014" It didn't get that interesting until more than halfway into the book, and even then it was okay. It wasn't thrilling or suspenseful... "
— Cathy, 1/28/2014" Another interesting Miss Marple mystery. I didn't enjoy it as much as The Murder at the Vicarage which I just finished. I was surprised by several details of the ending. I prefer her earlier works Still a good read. "
— Mark, 1/12/2014" A delightful, twisting Jane Marple tale. "
— Janet, 1/8/2014" Vintage Christie and vintage Miss Marple. An old favorite that I revisit from time to time. "
— Mary, 11/25/2013" agatha christie book... need i say more? she's a master or mystery novels.. hehehe "
— Roselle, 11/21/2013" As always, I love Agatha Christie. This one was a Miss Marple mystery. I was a little disappointed that the story line followed the policeman investigating the crime a lot more than Miss Marple herself. Still enjoyed it though. "
— Faye, 11/10/2013" This story is really more about how English society changed after the wars, and how blinding the force of nostalgia can be. The murder, per se, is a bit of an afterthought, but I think this is one of Christie's better books, even if it's not one of her better mysteries. "
— Eric, 10/30/2013" To some, its better to burn out than fade away. They shouldn't always be center stage, however. Good exploration of what becomes of innocence left idle. "
— Kirk, 6/5/2013" At Betram's Hotel is my all time favourite of the Miss Marple mysteries. I enjoy the complex layers, the overall plot, and the themes of change and progress. Christie's Miss Marple series does not need to be read in order to enjoy, although I prefer reading them in order. "
— Jennifer, 5/21/2013" not quite the classic Miss Marple mystery (so the label on the cover is misleading), and in many ways unusual for Agatha Christie. was a little disappointed, to be honest. "
— Aniko, 4/30/2013" One of the better Marple mysteries. "
— Claire, 3/2/2013" This was my first Agatha Christie book and I loved it! It was a little slow going in the beginning, but turned out to be a great mystery! "
— Stefani, 2/28/2013" I LOVE this book. Though the mystery portion is good, my favorite part is her description of the hotel itself with all of it's services. The muffin portion invariably makes me crave them. Most people think Christie is the queen of plots, but she also has some amazing descriptive skills. "
— Beka, 2/24/2013" Decent. A quick read, my first Ms. Marple (as opposed to Poirot). "
— Gena, 10/26/2012" the story was a hit dragged throughout the book except in the ending where everything seems rushed and hurried... but, agatha was wonderful as always & a well-thought story...... "
— Nimisha, 7/8/2012" The only Christie book which i actually took one week to complete...the plot was boring, the climax was predictable.... "
