" I'll admit that this is not my usual sort of thing, but I read it anyway because it got such rave reviews. It was supposed to be smart and funny and sweet, and well, it was sweet. It was an enjoyable read, don't get me wrong, but that's all. My main reaction was, meh. The characters felt hollow, like lists of attributes and preferences rather than people. I found myself not caring very much about them. I kept reading anyway because of said rave reviews expecting maybe some surprises in the end, hidden depths, but no, the ending was exactly what you expect. There is never any real doubt that Anna and St. Clair will get together in the end, the only question is, but seriously how long is this going to take for these two to have a remotely honest conversation. Those stakes are pretty damn low, especially as the entire thrust of the last third of the book makes the conversation inevitable. Basically, read this if you want a sweet love story in a picturesque setting and don't want anything particularly challenging or revelatory. "
