From Frank Portman, author of the cult classic King Dork that John Green says "will rock your world", comes a novel about Andromeda Klein, who has a few problems of her own. Her hair is kind of horrible. Her partner-in-occultism, Daisy, is dead. Her secret, estranged, much older and forbidden boyfriend-in-theory, has gone AWOL. And her mother has learned how to text. In short, things couldn't get much worse. Until they do. Daisy seems to be attempting to make contact from beyond, books are starting to disappear from the library, and then, strangely and suddenly, Andromeda's tarot readings are beginning to predict events with bizarrely literal accuracy. Omens are everywhere. Dreams; swords; fires; hidden cards; lost, broken, and dead cell phones . . . and what is Daisy trying to tell her? In the ensuing struggle of neutral versus evil, it's Andromeda Klein against the world, modern society, demonic forces, and the "friends" of the library.

"A surprisingly great YA read from good ol' Dr. Frank! I really appreciate the level of research that was put into making Andromeda's character legitimately knowledgeable about the occult. This is an idea for a book that could have been absolutely horrible but ended up being incredibly well-executed. My only gripe is that the book ended pretty much out of nowhere. It did not feel like an ending at all, and I was really confused when I got to the Audible.com "end of the book" section. I found myself really wanting to know what happened next. So I guess that's ultimately a good sign, even if it was a total non-ending. Good job Dr. Frank!"

" Super cool Occult refrences, but the plot was lacking in important events "
— Ana, 2/7/2014" I started listening to this on audio CD, but when my ears began to bleed I quickly retrieved it from the CD player and calmed myself with some NPR...really, really crappy. "
— Megan, 2/5/2014" Holy crap! This book is taking me forever to get thru. "
— Binky, 1/19/2014" This book was a brilliant example of what YA fiction can actually be like. Although it was slightly plotless, its plotlessness added to the plot. It is difficult to describe, but it was very good. I would recommend it to anyone who read king dork, the other book by this author. It can be slightly confusing at some points, but over all it was very good. "
— Sophie, 1/15/2014" Best book with a bad beginning I have ever read. "
— Maura, 1/13/2014" I have tried to read this book on 4 different occasions. But each time I never make it through the first chapter. I don't understand and therefore don't care about Andromeda. I don't understand what's going on other than she is riding her bike home. I may try this again later but I doubt it. "
— Kathleen, 1/10/2014" i don't have enough interest in tarot or the occult to stay awake whenever portman strays from the current storyline, which is every other sentence. i really did want to find out more about andromeda and daisy, but there was too much muck to wade though. "
— Kricket, 1/5/2014" This must've been very interesting to research, and a challenge to write. I wasn't sure I would be able to overcome the abundance of tarot language at the beginning, but persevered. "
— J4home06, 12/12/2013" Mostly not as good as King Dork, but better in some ways. "
— Danimal, 12/10/2013" Awesome, funny, poignant. My ONLY complaint is that a few issues were never resolved in the ending. (Maybe opening Amdromeda for a sequal?). "
— Kenny, 7/31/2013" Meh. Long, incredibly slow, kind of annoying. I'm glad I made it to the end, because the last few chapters come together nicely in a way that I wish the rest of the book had. "
— Claire, 6/29/2013" The first part of the book was really slow, but after I got into it I enjoyed it. "
— Ben, 4/4/2013" I love this book. Andromeda is real and quirky and I couldn't help but empathize with her. The book is smart and funny with plenty of wordplay throughout ... plus I learned lots about the occult! It's just a giant WIN all throughout. "
— Dina, 8/19/2012" didn't like it as much as king dork. i couldn't really relate to it at all, and the plot dragged on. "
— Eryn, 4/11/2011" Loved King Dork, just couldn't embrace this one as much. Took me awhile to finish this one. I'll be eagerly waiting for his next book still. "
— Shawn, 2/11/2011" Holy crap! This book is taking me forever to get thru. "
— Binky, 2/9/2011" I know I am a tough critic but I could not recommend this book to anyone. All of the tarot/occult stuff was too convoluted and that dragged down what could have (maybe) been an interesting story line. "
— Mollie, 1/5/2011" I love old books, I love old libraries... so does Andromeda Klein. I don't like weeding books merely because they are old or unused... neither does Andromeda Klein. I wish she was a teen employee in the Teen Space. "
— Elsbeth, 12/19/2010" I really wanted to like this book, but got bogged down in the occult history. "
— Pamela, 9/10/2010" Smart, dark, funny, plus magic. Totally recommended. "
— Katie, 8/28/2010" I loved King Dork so I got this book out from the library but was pretty disappointed by Andromeda Klein. I couldn't get into it "
— Meesha, 8/16/2010" Liked it a lot, but the tarot bits kind of dragged, which is one star off. More to come, and can't wait to read King Dork. "
