"This was the first time that I had read this author. It was a book about a young women learning to be a doctor. She assisted the current doctor in her town until it was time for her to get further education. She moved to Chicago from North Dakota to learn more. She got to experience surgeries and do cadavers. She was very homesick and had a love interest at home. Her days were very busy and long. At the end she had a decision to make. She could go back home, go to more schooling in Chicago or become a missionary in Africa. She was so unsure of what to do. The very last page it told you her decision. Now I have to read the next one to see what happens."

“Fans of faith-based historicals...are sure to enjoy Astrid’s story.”
— Booklist" I'm sorry to say that this book was forgettable for me. It was sweet in a few places, and I did really like a few of the characters....but I found myself struggling to finish it....and skipping over some of it. It was definately very ummmm preachy. I love a good Christian romance but to me this one was a bit over the top. "
— Heidi, 2/13/2014" There are A LOT of characters in this book to try & keep straight. It took me a little while to remember who everyone is as the story unfolded. I like Snelling's subject and thought that she did an excellent job of bringing the Norwegian culture into the book. "
— Jen, 2/1/2014" Boring, mostly. "
— Camiba, 1/16/2014" A; Astrid finally gets to stretch her legs and live. She goes to Chicago for medical training and is given the idea of becoming a missionary in Africa. Her heart is torn between home, the man she's getting to know, and what God's calling actually may be. The book ends in a 'to be continued' fashion with her embarking on a train to Georgia for missionary training. "
— Cathy, 1/16/2014" Ok I like a good christen romance as much as the next romance seeking mom but this was too much. I think they prayed in this book 20 times before the first chapter had even ended. WHo does that? It was not realistic even for back then. It bugged me too much....I just can't read anymore of this author I guess. I couldn't finish it and had to put it down. I wish there was a rating for tried to read it and couldn't. "
— Melissa, 12/9/2013" First in the Home to Blessing series, though it's essentially still the same story of the Bjorklunds in the Dakota's. This series begins in about 1904. Wonderful! "
— Joanne, 12/4/2013" I did not like it first; it seemed like it took awhile to get going. Astrid's doubt when she first got to the hospital was annoying too. I know it's hard to trust God sometimes but she seemed to completely forget who He was. I expected the climax to come much earlier but all in all, it was a decent read. I plan to read the next in the series to see how it ends "
— Candace, 12/3/2013" its a very good book "
— Cassandra, 11/19/2013" So far the book was hard to get started and keep my attention. I'm not far into it, however it's getting better. I hope to finish it soon "
— Rachel, 10/25/2013" I really enjoyed the medical/science portion of the book, but would have enjoyed it even more with some romance. The romance in this book was almost nill. I don't even want to read the rest! I'm afraid they'll be just as lacking and waste my time! "
— Brooke, 10/6/2013" Pleasant and simple story. Good for the whole family. loved the reliance on God, but got a little tired of the Africa angst. "
