" This series of books is a little like the Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe series. I enjoyed it. "
— Kim, 2/16/2014" This is an intriguing concept for a book. I thought that it took a really long time (about 80%ish into the book) to actually begin explaining some of the why things were happening in the book. The beginning of the book was alright, but it wasn't something that I was dying to finish. However the ending was pretty good and I am hoping that the other books in the series are better. "
— Jenn, 1/11/2014" Clever premise, but doesn't develop fast enough. "
— Joan, 12/23/2013" We found the book fairly engaging and liked the characters. It all seemed to end too quickly, leaving us feeling like things were not quite as developed, explained, or resolved as they could have been. But I suppose that's why there were followup books. "
— Eric, 12/23/2013" loved, loved , loved this book such a fun and adventurous story. excuse me while i go to my attic, i thought i saw a small door on the wall... "
— Jen, 10/4/2013" This was fabulous. Tons of obscure allusions, enough to compete with That Hideous Strength. There are not many who could combine the rugged style of American prose with Scottish fairy tales. "
— John, 8/17/2013" Many of the patrons at our recent book fair saw this book on the shelf and wanted to know more, so I bought it and went home to read it and report. I really liked it and thought the pace and the creativity was nicely written. "
— Jamie, 7/29/2013" ok story with a gorgeous book cover "
— Catherine, 6/15/2013" Fun little book! Good enough to want to read the next one "
— Pat, 4/17/2013" It was boring. This kid discovers that there are cupboard doors behind the plaster of his bedroom wall. He discovers that the cupboards lead to other alternate worlds. This was one of the books nominated for the Iowa Children's Choice Awards. I suppose kids who like fantasy would like it. "
— Marty, 2/17/2013" I think it's more like 3.5 stars. I really enjoyed this book. I will be picking up the rest of the series to find out what happens next. It's so interesting, I felt like the main character's cousin wanting to find out what was behind all those cupboards. "
— Cynthia, 10/15/2012" Loved this fantasy...so much fun! "
— Stephanie, 5/12/2012" This continued my fiction reading with the kids. MRH2 and CKH were a little disturbed near the end, but were totally engaged. I'm still wondering about the propriety of Henry and Henrietta in Henry, KS, but so be it. I think I liked it enough to move ahead in N.D.'s trilogy. "
— Sean, 4/26/2012" exciting and imaginative - Ryan and I listened to this one - really enjoyed it! "
— Tiffiny, 4/4/2012" Just okay...the story concept is so awesome that I expected to enjoy this book much more than I did. Won't be finishing the series. "
— Amber, 2/4/2012" I read this in one day and did enjoy the story, but it is kind of scary at times, so I wouldn't recommend it for younger kids. It is very unique and interesting. "
— Valerie, 11/30/2011" Taught me to arm myself with a baseball bat if I ever go fistycuffs with a dread queen of a dark kingdom. "
— Josiah, 11/9/2011" Loved it! Wouldn't it be great to find adventure wherever you are? "
— Mary, 9/11/2011" Well written. Henry is a more developed character in this second book. Looking forward to reading Chestnut King. "
— Trish, 5/15/2011" Found the second book - good, continued the story from the first. But the many characters started to get confusing. Still a good read... "
— Esther, 5/13/2011" Ok,this book is incredebly confusing. "
— Camille, 4/7/2011" While I was captivated by the concept of 100 Cupboards, this book took a left turn into wordiness and stretched my imagination too far. I would recommend stopping after 100 Cupboards, it was an intriguing concept that could have been explored in a manner better than this. "
— Maureen, 4/6/2011" Thoroughly riveting and exciting sequel in a very unique fantasy series! Wow! It is pretty intense and there is a bit of swearing, so not for younger kids. "
— Valerie, 3/12/2011" I was initially afraid N.D. would be too conservative with the scope of the series. He really came through. "
— Nico, 3/9/2011" Well done fantasy, although my children are looking more forward to the third book than I am. It does not compare (in my opinion) to the Amulet series or Funke's Reckless. "
— Ellen, 2/18/2011" not as good as the first<br/> "
— Maddie, 2/16/2011" The Wizard of Oz of its time. "
— LJh*, 2/5/2011" This book was so disappointing. The book was all over the place, following multiple stories, each making less sense then the last. "
— Nessa, 2/4/2011" I didn't finish it because there was cursing in it. "
