Walter de la Mare (1873–1956) was an English poet and author of novels and short stories. Although he is best remembered for his works for children, he is also known for his lyrical, fantastic poetry and his supernatural tales of psychological horror. His Collected Stories for Children won the 1947 Carnegie Medal, and he was awarded the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in fiction for his 1921 novel Memoirs of a Midget.
