Paul B. Brown writes the What’s Offline column that runs every Saturday in the New York Times. A former writer and editor of Business Week, Financial World, Forbes, and Inc., he is the author or coauthor of more than a dozen books, including Sweat Equity: What It Really Takes to Best Small Companies in America with Geoffrey N. Smith and The Map of Innovation with Kevin O’Connor. Brown also wrote Creating a Winner: The Real Secrets of Successful Marketing, which was the winner of the American Film Institute’s award for best business program.
