Dick Gregory’s (1932–2017) social satire has changed the way white Americans perceive African American comedians. Known for his trailblazing form of racial commentary during the 1960s, he later became a worldwide activist and health/fitness entrepreneur and was the author of a number of books, including the classic Nigger: An Autobiography, published in 1964, and his 2000 memoir Callus on My Soul. He lives in Washington, DC.
