Charles Andrew Coates (1862–1945) was born in Bradford, England. He never enjoyed robust health, and the many occasions when he was ill were put to good use in the study of Holy Scripture. Because of his ill health, he could not go about teaching and preaching, so instead he wrote many books and tracts and composed a number of poems and hymns.
