Kristin Burns is making her way in New York City. Her photos are being considered at a major Manhattan gallery, she works by day with two wonderful children, and the man of her dreams is almost hers for keeps. But just as everything she's ever wanted is finally within reach, her life changes forever--with one murderous nightmare.
Kristin wakes up every morning from the same chilling, unforgettable dream. And suddenly, it's visiting her during the day too. As her life turns stranger by the minute, Kristin is haunted and terrified. Is it all in her head? Or is the nightmare becoming her life?
Kristin searches desperately for what's real through the lens of her camera, only knowing two things for sure: that no place is safe and the fate of everyone she loves lies in her hands.

"I thought this book was interesting and very different from the other Patterson books, I normally read. The ending is a little unexpected and strange, but I liked the book and wanted to keep reading to find out what was going to happen."
— Pamela (4 out of 5 stars)
“A James Patterson thriller to keep you up late.”
— Barnes & Noble editorial review“As enigmatic a book as Patterson has ever produced...This is a Patterson novel with something for everyone.”
— BookReporter.com“The Patterson bestseller factory has turned out another high-drama thriller, this time in collaboration with Honeymoon coauthor Roughan.”
— Publishers Weekly“The female perspective of the story is well portrayed by Ilyana Kadushin. She has just enough of a frightened tremor in her voice to communicate the scariness of the situation that develops. When she describes the dead people Kristin sees, dead people who repeatedly warn her of danger, it sounds real. Kadushin’s delivery is perfect, adding to the fear and ultimate despair of the story.”
— AudioFile" This was the dumbest book I have ever heard. I'm starting to read Patterson, but if this is representative of his work, I won't read more. I kept listening, hoping for the plot to become clear, but it never did. "
— Twigsy, 3/28/2023" I enjoyed the book, the ending left me a little disappointed. I don't feel like the pivotal events in the end stayed true to the charcacter development. The actions/consequences of the main characters did not match the personalities that had been written for them. "
— Rachel, 2/18/2014" I really enjoyed another Patterson/Roughan book so this one was a bit disappointing. The audio version was well read but the plot line was a bit .. bizarre. It kept fluctuating between the main character's nightmares which seemed mixed with reality (so it was hard to determine what had actually happened and what was dreamed) and her increasingly obsessive relationship with her married boyfriend. The ending has a twist and it sort wraps everything up, but I was left feeling more perplexed than satisfied. "
— Sharon, 2/12/2014" The book kept me drawn in the entire time, I just felt the ending was a little weak. "
— Aurora, 2/10/2014" Good but others from him are better "
— Dani, 2/3/2014" Poor writing, bad story line, is this really a Patterson? Come on-I can't believe you put your name on this one-and I've read them all. Shame on you--you should be sending refund checks on this one "
— Jeannie, 2/1/2014" Great pyschological thriller. The twist at the end was little unbelievable however I can't always read coming of age novels right? Fun to read and guess what was going on even if my several guesses were wrong :) "
— Tara, 1/25/2014" Very strange. Super quick read. "
— Wendy, 1/24/2014" I have really enjoyed all of the James Patterson books I have read so far. This was an exception. I did not like this book at all. I guess they all cannot be great. "
— Lauren, 1/14/2014" I was not too happy with this one...It is a typical James Patterson, fast read but not too much... "
— Marjan, 1/13/2014" Creepy , but good although I guessed what was happening early... "
— Gail, 1/9/2014" This was a weird one by Patterson. Definitely not one of my favorites. "
— Loryn, 12/19/2013" This one was weird. It was hard to tell if the main character was in a dream or real life. Not one of my favorite James Patterson novels. "
— Alice, 12/17/2013" The book was a quick read and over all it was enjoyable, but I was highly disappointed in the end. I thought it could have ended differently. "
— Tracie, 12/13/2013" Luckily, I got this as an audiobook from the library, so I didn't pay for it. Silly story, inconsistent, and a main character that I didn't care about. I usually like Patterson's books better, but steer clear of this one. "
— Julie, 12/9/2013" pretty engaging thusfar! "
— Boo, 12/7/2013" Though it was slightly confusing, and it is an adult book, it was well written and very entertaining. If you like murder and movies such as 'Black Swan' you will most likely like this book. "
— Kitty, 11/25/2013" This one wasn't my favorite. It kind of creeped me out a little bit. "
— Tanya, 11/9/2013" Okay, this book was weird. And thats pretty much all i can think of to say about it. It was weird. "
— Katie, 10/29/2013" One of my classmates reccomended this book to me. I did not think it was going to be good at first however, the writing style was easy to read and the book was quick paced. "
— Matt, 9/16/2013" This book was a definite page turner. Bordering on 'the odd' but you couldn't put it down until you found out if what you were guessing all along was the real deal or not! "
— Ronda, 4/25/2013" You have been warned!! :) "
— Emma, 2/11/2013" very good, hoping for a sequeal! "
— Marie, 12/23/2012" I liked the suspense but I never did really understand the ending. I guess it is one I will have to read again. "
— Bridget, 10/23/2012" I'm a huge fan of James Patterson but this book was very disappointing. I'd have to say that this was my least favorite of all his books that I've read. "
— Libby, 10/13/2012" Unable to read "
— Lois, 7/30/2012" The only reason I finished this book is because I thought it would eventually go somewhere. Unfortunately, it went nowhere, and then it was over. Very disappointing. "
— Carole, 6/26/2012" I can not recommend this book. Definitely not up to James Patterson's usual standards. It was a mish mash of nonsense. No real character developement so you could have cared less where the story went. Only finished it because i hate to quit a book. "
— Gail, 1/11/2012" Its a very fast read, it took me 3 hours. Its different...kind of spooky in some parts. It also makes you think about decisions you may make and how they may affect you in the afterlife. "
— Dulcie, 12/5/2011" Found this all a bit obvious - from about section 2 or 3 it was easy to see what was going to happen which always IMHO detracts from the story. Still, that said, it was a good book with a nice pace to it. "
— Peri, 7/3/2011" It was a decent book, not one of my favorites. I didn't like how it ended. I don't know if I missed something, but I was confused. I kind of know what happened, but at the same time I don't. It's a good mystery novel, it keeps you wondering what's going to happen next. "
— Sarah306, 5/22/2011" Starts off a little slow and it's a strange book. It isn't a book I would read again. Very hard to get into and find sympathy with the main character. "
— Robin, 5/9/2011" This book was real different for a James Patterson book. It kept me interested enough that I finished it, and he kept me wanting more but it definitely wasn't his best work. "
— Dan, 5/3/2011" Didn't like it. Too dark. "
— Neal, 5/1/2011" His books are always fun! Read in one day (at work)! LOL "
— melody, 4/27/2011" Do NOT waste your time. Weird, with very little pay-off. Shocked that Patterson put his name on this book. "
— Tiffany, 4/27/2011" Very good, nice easy read. "
— Jackie, 4/24/2011" Fantastic an ordinary film loaded-Leica-camera can give you hell.Fast pace.Afterlife I don't believed. No a great book to read. "
— Peter, 4/15/2011" Thank god this was a quick read because it was a painful experience. "
— Gina, 4/10/2011" This book was awful! I only read it because someone left it at the gas station I worked at and I needed something to occupy my time. The plot, characters, and dialogue was all terrible. He tried to throw a couple sex scenes in it to spice it up, but it didn't work just made it more cheesy. "
— Daniel, 4/5/2011" Is she dead or isn't she? This book reminded me of the movie "Sixth Sense". "
— Ppflieger, 4/4/2011" This was an interesting story. I was sure I was missing something for most of the book. "
