The author of nearly two dozen best-sellers, including Orchid Beach and Swimming to Catalina, Stuart Woods unfailingly entertains legions of fans with his suspenseful novels. Fifth in the series featuring the dashing, sophisticated Stone Barrington, this page-turner offers nonstop action. Stone and his ex-partner, Dino, are facing every policeman's worst fear. The people close to them are being murdered, probably by someone the two of them sent to prison in the past. To complicate matters, Stone finds himself involved in a distracting relationship with a woman who may be as dangerous as she is beautiful. As the body count multiplies, Stone and Dino race against time to find clues to the brilliant killer's identity. Through glitzy restaurants, dark back alleys, and posh summer communities, the suave Stone Barrington faces mobsters, a bomber, and a former lover to get his man. Richard Ferrone's rugged, no-nonsense narration is the perfect vehicle for this nonstop thrill ride.

"This is an old Stone Barrington mystery. People are being brutally murdered by someone who is slitting throats. A woman Stone was with was among the first victims. He and Dino begin to believe that someone they had arrested back in the day was responsible. Stone also becomes involved with Dino's extended family. The mystery is well done. This is also a very quick read."

" This the second or third Stone Barrington novel I've read so far. I've liked them all, wish I would have started them in order, but am enjoying them no matter what order they are in. I consider these stories to be good for a change in pace. "

— Daniel, 1/19/2014" Excellent; continuing character: Stone Barrington; Stone's companions are dying at the hands of a man who he caught and imprisoned years before. "
— Joe, 1/18/2014" listened to abridged version which was 4 cassettes. Felt there was too much sex. "

— Debbie, 12/18/2013" Stone Barrington lives a life we all want! He is a handsome cop-turned-lawyer, very good suspense in this novel is erratic. You find yourself hooked Woods has all the right ingredients: sex, murder, etc. They just weren't mixed together well to create a great novel. Makes a great summer read. "
— Renee, 12/7/2013" Although I read this not in correct sequence, it gave me great story line info about Stone Barrington characters. Love all of Stuart Woods' books.... "
— Cindy, 12/4/2013" Another Stone Barrington novel. Another quick read. This time Stone is really frightened when people he knows are turning up dead. The suspect has an alibi, he is in prison. Then an old friend turns up and becomes one of the targets too. Even Stone's friend and old partner's family become targets. "
— Arlene, 10/23/2013" such a boring read I only lasted 15 minutes "
— Crys, 7/31/2013" some times these cosy reads are better than agonising police procedurals where they go into too many minute details. "
— Choopie, 7/1/2013" Oh! That Stone is such a tom cat!!! and rich too. Murders galore for Stone and his buddy Dino to catch in NYC. "
— Marianne, 5/23/2013" It was very good. A cop thriller which I enjoy and well-written. The characters were developed well and were likable. Had interesting side stories as well. "
— Ann, 4/15/2013" Stone Barrington solves a well-crafted mystery, shoots at things, and has some women issues. This was not my favorite Barrington (someone is killing people close to Stone, his friends, and allies) but it works. It closes rapidly but leaves the reader with some things to think about. "
— doug, 1/1/2013" pretty good story in this one. Stuart Woods (Author) doesn't disappoint. In this novel we meet up with Dolce.. hahaha.. if he only knew now what he knows in the later books, things could have been avoided "

— Ron, 3/9/2012" One of my favorite Stuart Woods book so far. A good fun read with an intriguing plot. "
— Alan, 3/6/2012" It keeps the pages turning. Lots of action even when there is not action. That is, the personal relationships between the characters keeps you turning the pages, just as much as the 'guns drawn' portions of the book do. A nice read to let the mind slip off to somewhere else. "
— Cade, 8/30/2011" Stone Barrington and Dino Bacchetti are targeted by someone they arrested for murder years before. Not only are their lives in danger, but their friends and relatives are also on the hit list. "
— Genie, 8/14/2011" I would rate this a 3.8. It's an easy read and perfect for a summer day. Stone Brrington is smart, witty and goes through women like water but you gotta love the guy. I really enjoy this series as a less intense murder mystery. "
— Mary, 2/25/2011" There is enough action to satisfy me in this fifth installment of the Stone Barrington series. And the usual rich, beautiful, over-sexed characters I've come to expect in the series keep me amused. "
