Twenty years ago, a barmaid in a harbor town fell for a young sailor who turned pirate to make his fortune. But what truly became of Black Edward Tew remains a mystery, one that has just fallen into the lap of freelance sword jockey Eddie LaCrosse.
For years, Eddie has kept his office above Angelina’s tavern, so when Angelina herself asks him to find out what happened to the dashing pirate who stole her heart years ago, he can hardly say no—even though the trail is two decades old. Some say Black Edward and his ship, The Bloody Angel, went to bottom of the sea, taking with it a king’s ransom in treasure. Others say he rules a wealthy, secret pirate kingdom. And a few believe he still sails under a ghostly flag with a crew of the damned.
To find the truth, and earn his twenty-five gold pieces a day, Eddie must take to sea in the company of a sexy former pirate queen in search of the infamous Tew—and his even more legendary treasure.

"He is an incredibly imaginative and original writer, with a number of different series out, but my favorite has always been his Eddie LeCrosse books. Eddie is a sword jockey--like a cross between a 50's private detective and a sword and sorcery hero. His adventures started with The Sword-Edged Blonde and continue with his 4th Eddie book, Wake of the Bloody Angel. There are pirates (including a mostly-retired pirate queen who is one of the best female protagonists I've seen in years), monsters, and mystery...as well as Eddie's unconventional and enduring love story. This was undeniably the best of them all: gripping, funny, and smart. You're going to want to read this book."

“Gives every evidence that Bledsoe’s combination of sword and sorcery with hard-boiled detection will have a long and successful run.”
— Publishers Weekly, Starred Review, on Burn Me Deadly“Bledsoe’s fourth epic fantasy noir featuring ‘sword jockey’ Eddie LaCrosse is action-packed and witty…The lead’s sardonic narrative voice will amply entertain readers who like their urban fantasies on the lighter side.”
— Publishers Weekly“Eddie LaCrosse, the likable sword jockey (read private eye), returns for another swashbuckling adventure…Bledsoe cleverly combines noir motifs with familiar piratical elements, creating a lighthearted adventure with a dark, serious core…A pleasure to read for fans across multiple genres."
— Booklist“Bledsoe brings his own brand of tough charm to the proceedings, assisted by a stalwart supporting cast, vivid scenery and rugged bursts of action. Series fans certainly won’t be disappointed.”
— Kirkus Reviews“An entertaining, well-crafted melding of fantasy and hard-boiled detective fiction.”
— Kirkus Reviews on Burn Me Deadly“[A] well-crafted novel.”
— Library Journal on Dark Jenny" Fun, quick-reading action tale of a sword jockey detective hunting down a 20 year old trail. I need to start at the beginning of the series and read them all. "
— Ron, 2/18/2014" I'm still enjoying this mix of detective and fantasy fiction. This one takes to the sea for some Pirate flavour, and the mix of Jane and Eddie on the Southern Sea made for compelling reading. Their repartee had a wonderful Boggey and Baccall flavour for me; and once again, Bledsoe managed to steer that standard adventure feeling into "Dark Victory" territory. I can't get enough of these books; I hope Bledsoe sells enough to keep them coming. "
— Karlo, 1/18/2014" I love Eddie LaCrosse. That is all. "
— Rachel, 1/17/2014" A great read from start to finish. Alex Bledsoe never fails to bring home a winner. Loved it! "
— R, 12/28/2013" 2.5 stars. Fun read, but nothing extra. Like Pirates of the Caribbean, except with a competent hero and less imaginative swearing. Unleash the kraken! Didn't feel a huge need to go back and read previous books, but will if I run across them in my travels. "
— Cover, 11/7/2012" Great read... a bit on and off in places, but overall a great detective noir/fantasy book. The scenes of pirate life were spot on and great! "
