Based on over twenty-five years of spirit communication and thousands of professional readings, world-famous medium James Van Praagh shares with readers the personal regrets, misgivings, remorse, and, most important, the advice of the dead who have chosen him as a medium. These spirits have a great deal to say about what they have learned and discovered on the other side and how we, the living, can benefit from their experiences.
Unfinished Business is filled with shocking and emotional stories of Van Praagh's communication with loved ones who cross over the barrier between the living and the dead to send messages to those whom they have left behind. Through these pro-found true stories, Van Praagh guides us on an adventure into the spirit world. The lessons for the living that he has learned from these experiences range from the dangers of emotional baggage caused by guilt, fear, and regret to the importance of karma, forgiveness, and taking responsibility for our actions. Van Praagh shares with us now the wisdom that, without him, we would only gain after death.
Van Praagh writes:
""When people shed their physical bodies at death, their spiritual selves see life from a whole new perspective. It's as if they had Lasik surgery. They can finally take off their glasses and see everything more clearly.
""Spirits understand why certain situations had to happen. They are able to recognize the value of others, even their enemies, and what they had to learn from them. They also realize how they could have skipped certain mistakes by not letting their egos get in the way. After crossing into the light, spirits are ever eager to share their newfound knowledge with the living, and I am fortunate to be a beneficiary of spirits' wisdom and guidance, and I am happy to share their insights with you.""

"I thought this book was very well written. It provided some excellent insight on how one can try to be a better person now. The concepts that James discussed were not anything new, but were written in such a way that I felt truly inspired. While I was raised Catholic, I don't subscribe to any particular religion now. James had a chapter (or maybe it was part of a chapter) about the difference between spirituality and religion which was right on the mark for me. I think everyone can learn something from this book no matter where your faith come from."

“This book is a manual for life. Read it now, so later you won’t have to stand in line and tell Aunt Dumb Dumb you’re sorry.”
— Chelsea Handler, comedian, New York Times bestselling author“Van Praagh shows us how eager each of us is to find some measure of transcendence as we make our way through this world…[He] has changed people’s lives, banished the fear of death, and brought grieving parents the solace of their dead children’s presence…It is impossible not to be moved.”
— Newsweek" This book will change your attitude about others, especially if you harbor grudges, and it may just alter your thoughts about death. Well written with an excellent ending. "
— Philip, 2/17/2014" Didn't really read it the whole way through, heard though what it claimed. Nice things to believe surely. The style of the book was a bit oversimplified and oversentimental, but then it was about dealing with dead relatives, and he does sound like a good man. "
— Ian, 2/13/2014" My husband Steve and I saw James Van Praagh in Chicago for ALA. We attended his session and he signed two books for us. I loved his latest book. It is spiritual and talks about forgiveness and love. "
— Lori, 2/12/2014" Very interesting take on spirituality and the afterlife. "
— Jillian, 2/5/2014" more of a reminder of how to live your life well, as stories from beyond give you insight into what you know and they know and how we may be 'off' and how to gently 'get back onto it'. "
— Ann, 1/31/2014" Having been loaned this autographed book by the author's niece, I knew it would be a kick to read. It was extremely fascinating to hear his perspective on the afterlife. He provides numerous accounts of messages he shares from those who have crossed over to their family and friends. The details are so rich and specific, you've simply got to wonder. I can't wait to see him when he comes to lecture in Boston this Fall! "
— Bonnie, 1/18/2014" For another eye opener... "
— Danielle, 1/14/2014" Good book, some inspirational thoughts! "

— Zia, 6/24/2013" I liked this one. Whether you subscribe to his belief system or not, the author brings useful wisdom from his perspectives. Read it and see for yourself. It's especially good for grieving individuals who have recently experienced the loss of a loved one. "
— Liza, 6/16/2013" If anything it opens the door way to think beyond what is right infront of you. Things are not always what they seem and each of us is fighting our own battles. "
— Sandra, 6/9/2013" Extremely helpful for where I'm at right now. Very easy to read. "
— Ellen, 4/29/2013" I read this one simply because I was and am curious. I will never really know if it's all real but I find myself interested. This reads like a self-help book too...if anything, I was inspired by the "life advice." "
— Mary, 3/19/2013" I am giving this 5 stars because of what I got out of the book, not necessarily because of the way that it is written. It is an easy read if you are open to it, but I would stress to take your time to get the most out of the messages as you can. "
— Ellen, 7/22/2012" A self-help book with a twist-ghosts! "
— Sue, 6/9/2012" A friend's 16 year old recently drowned. I loved this kid and have known since she was about 3. I've always known (somehow) that death is not the end but another phase of life. This book confirmed all I've always felt was true. I loved it. It helped me tremendously at this very sad time in my life. "
— Noelle, 3/1/2012" Interesting book about a medium who sees and talks with people who have died. Parts are quite convincing. Most importantly, he seems to give help, and hope, to people who are grieving. "
— Lynne, 11/18/2011" A book containing wonderful lessons on how to live. This book had me hooked and I finished it in just a few days. Great read! "

— Amanda, 8/10/2010" More of a self-help book than a look at life after death, although it does give many accounts of readings with people on the other side. "
— Sara, 2/27/2010" i thought this was one of his best.... i really loved this book. "
— Suzie, 7/11/2009" I always feel like I take something away I can implement in my life from each of James Van Praagh's books. I was really moved also by many of the stories he tells in the book - especially the one of about his neighbor Violette. "
