Publisher Description

"Children will easily relate to this tale, in which humor and realism effectively mesh." --Booklist

Timothy is very excited about starting school--until he meets Claude. Claude sits next to him, and he wears all the right clothes, says all the right things, and garners all the praise from his teacher and classmates. Timothy is feeling down, until he meets a girl who's having the same problem with her seatmate.

"We've all had a Claude or a Grace in our lives. This book enables us to laugh at them, so much so that we almost get the hiccups."

" I checked this out to read to my little guy who is starting preschool next month, and it turns out to be about a not so nice kid at school who makes Timothy crazy. He finds a friend in the end, but not what I was looking for as an into to the world of school. "

" I really wish Timothy's mother had encouraged him to stand up for himself instead of helping him try to appease a rude kid. Glad he was able to find a good friend in the end (even though they were bonding over who they didn't like in class). "

" I started out liking this book, and I am a fan of Rosemary Wells' illustrations. But the ending for me was dissappointing. Not okay to laugh at other people, and certainly not a good message for the picture book set (or anyone for that matter). "
