Alexia Tarabotti—Lady Maccon—has settled into domestic bliss. Of course, being Alexia, such bliss involves integrating werewolves into London high society, living in a vampire’s second best closet, and coping with a precocious toddler who is prone to turning supernatural mishaps. Even Ivy Tunstell’s acting troupe’s latest play, disastrous to say the least, cannot put a damper on Alexia’s enjoyment of her new London lifestyle—that is, until she receives a summons from Alexandria that cannot be ignored.

With husband, child, and Tunstells in tow, Alexia boards a steamer to cross the Mediterranean. But Egypt may hold more mysteries than even the indomitable Lady Maccon can handle. What does the vampire queen of the Alexandria Hive really want from her? Why is the God-Breaker Plague suddenly expanding? And how has Ivy Tunstell suddenly become the most popular actress in all the British Empire?

" As with all of the Parasol Protectorate series, Carriger meshes the timelessness of werewolves and vampires with Victorian values and steam punk oddities. The characters continue to progress through their relationships and trials and tribulations of being new parents, Alphas of a pack and forever suspects of the vampire hives. Alexia is a timeless character with her own take on the way things should be, while maintaining her Victorian values and proper etiquette. She is delightful, as is everyone that she comes in contact with. Special note that the narrator of these books is fabulaous, able to portray personality in each of the characters voices. Kudos! "

" it's sad that the worst book of the series was the final installment. but at least it wasn't horrible and completely different from how the series started off. I liked the last few curveballs that were thrown into the story but it does leave a feeling that the series isn't complete. "

" I cried. I laughed. I couldn't put it down. The end of this leaves just enough questions and solves some of the major plot points in the series. I loved it. I can only ever hope to be as good a writer as Ms. Carriger. "
