Plot Summary

Life isn't easy, when you live in a world known for its demon attacks. On one hand, there's constant excitement. On the other...constant danger. The attacks have gotten so frequent over the years that they've plunged humanity into a Dark Age, full of little hope and almost-definite retribution.

Corelings, the demons are called, and there is very little one can do to avoid them...except for the wards, painted on surfaces and buildings, used to drive them off. The wards, however, are fragile. The slightest disturbance can cause them to crumble. All in all, not a very effective means of protecting your dwelling.

The story follows three youths as they each follow their quest to save mankind from coreling attack. In it, there is mystery and danger, darkness and sorrow. From the temptations of a child to the bravery of a young man, one must wonder: Will they succeed, or will humanity crumble once and for all?

The Warded Man Audiobook is a thrilling coming-of-age tale that will have you wondering the entire time what's going to happen to humanity and the heroes next. Never forget: a coreling may be lurking just around the corner.

Peter V. Brett is an American fantasy author most known for his Warded Man novel series. He studied English literature and the arts at the University at Buffalo, only to spend a decade thereafter working in the pharmacy publication field. At an early age, he developed an interest in fantasy, and wrote several books before finding success with his first published novel The Warded Man.

"I am usually a little leery of debut novels. The books are good but the whole package needs some work. Peter Brett needs no polish. I loved this book.[return][return]Mankind has been beaten down. Man hides in his hovels at night and cringes in fear of the demons. Slowly mankind is dying. Arlen does not understand why man does not fight back. He determines that he is not going to be a coward. This is his first step towards becoming the Warded Man. A man who takes the fight to the demons. Through years of training and discovery, he turns his own body into a weapon against the dark tide of demondium.[return][return]A man who hates demons and kills them at every opportunity. But, is his distaste for cowardly humans just as powerful? Can a man live by himself and just live with hatred? Does man need companionship, love, strength from those around him?[return][return]A truly excellent first book from Peter Brett. I cannot wait for the next book in this series.[return][return][return]A must buy. Highly recommended."
